Is it true that... (neck question)

That a bolt-on neck Bass provides a much more "snappy" or "punchy" tone than a set-neck or neck-through Bass?

I have been recently looking at neck-through Spector and Warwick Basses to get a good mix-raping tone, but would a bolt-on Bass provide to my needs better?
Having played several basses that were identical, except for neck-attachment, I've noticed there are, in fact differences.

I wouldn't characterize the differences as "punchy" or "sustain", as those words are easily misused and misunderstood.

Neck-through basses do seem to have a stronger fundamental, whereas bolt-on basses appear to have a stronger harmonic content. You can interpret the results as you may, and you can search previous posts I've made on the differences. Such basses have included MTD (yes, for those who don't know, he DOES make a few neck-throughs), Stambaugh (who made the semi-famous Stambaugh twins - a few different ways, including construction and scale length), Jerzy Drozd, and others.

That's a good vid but the woods on the two basses are different so it doesn't really give a just comparison of bolt-on vs. neck through.

I stumbled upon that video while I was trawling the tube fer some ken Smith clips.I agree it's not going to give a 100% accurate comparison, but I feel it demonstrates the basic characteristics rather well.At least that's what my ears are hearing.Granted the tops of both basses are different, but that the only difference.More importantly, the pickups & onboard eq's are the same.
Cheers Mr.President.
