Umm.. i like to have a little fun on TB occasionally, it’s a little bit of humor directed towards the “jaco only needed 4” folks, that I particularly enjoy…Why would another string make anyone any better?

Jaco was a genius bass player, who redefined the entire role of electric bass in jazz music. Five-string basses did not become widely available until after Jaco had died (tragically young) in 1987, though they did exist as custom-built instruments before then. Or so I've been told.Who's Jaco and why couldn't he cope with 5?
Not necessarily. It really depends on the bass. The lightest basses I've owned have been five stringers.
I do believe Jaco would’ve been devastatingly good on a 5 or 6 in reality, like his son Felix, who is a complete beast on the bass…Why would another string make anyone any better?
Thanks! It's a USA made Peavey Millennium that I modified with different pickups and a preamp.Lovely. What bass is that?
A.K.A. laziness.IMO the biggest reason NOT to get a 5 string is the necessary adaptation, whatever that takes.
Well... Hate to burst your bubble, but... no, not everybody on TB loves 5-string basses. How do I know? 'Cause one of those folks that don't love them - is Me. I don't hate them; it's just that there are a couple of reasons - good reasons - for me not to waste my time and $$ on them.I'm an outsider on TB, but I'll tell you everyone on here loves 5-strings.
I find them way too heavy. The necks are massive to counter that extra tension.
These are not very popular here on TB, and I don't know why. ... It would be even more attractive if it were passive.
okay the neck is a little wider, but it weighs less than my four string jazz. And, how is this ugly?

Right on!!!It's not!
I was just adding to the silly negative comments![]()
The second consideration is whether you want the fingering and/or tonal options which will be open to you with a five string but not with a four.
Hello mates! One does really need a 5 ? I am interested about it but since I am intermediate player I dont want to slow down my learning or even complicate my already gained progress, but maybe the 5th also teaches me new things , like expand the scales and stuff...
Its easy to say " go get one" , just keep in mind that I dont have a big budget to own 2 basses so I would have to sell mine 4 string to get a 5.
What do you guys say?
Thanks!
