i have to make a decision here
i have an ibanez gsr200 and i love how does ir feel but i need a punchier tone so i think to buy the symour duncan quarter pounder
but on the other side i have the option to keep saving money to buy a atk300rsp

so is it worht it to upgrade de gsr200 or it cant be compared to the atk300rsp because it is just a begginer bass
also i you have any bass sugestion to play pop punk will be great

Well that second bass is over triple the cost of your first.
If you want a lot more quality, buy the new bass.
But if you don't feel like spending almost $700 on a new bass, just buy the quarter pounders and see how it sounds.

Buy the QP's secondhand. Keep the originals. When you have enough money for the ATK, refit the originals to the GSR and sell it and the QP seperately to maximise returns.

are you sure you want qp's .. I have read many reviews on them and not to many of them are real favourable .. there are alot of nice pickups out there .. definitely go with the buy second hand idea .. definitely the way to go .. you can basically buy use and then sell for the same price if you buy good pickups and don't trash them .. I have done this a few times

Great idea. I like the Quarter Pounders and they are a good upgrade for the GSR. The Quarter Pounder detractors don't like them for various reasons. But the Quarter Pounder fans love them. So far, we're in the majority.:)

I have QP's in my RBX250, and they're really nice, lots of thump, volume and definition depending on how you set the toneknob (0,05 µF cap on a 250K pot). A lot better then the stock pup with which the tone only had the settings "mud" and "more mud".

I's say get the QP's second hand, which minimizes the loss if you choose to shift 'em.

sorry for posting in this old threat but i did not feel like doing another
but this is the story
i noticed ATK300 is not really my style so i give a try to a P-bass and the only one i like(without actually trying) was the american deluxe
the p-basses i tried have only 19 or 20 frets(i dont remember how much exactly)
and i need ant least 22
now i repeat i love the feel on my GSR200 and i cant get money for the american deluxe p bass becasue i dont have a job(i am just 15) and is would be really hard, if not imposible, to get one to my country(peru)
so is there going to be a huge difference in the sound with the QP?
or any other mods should be done?(is it hard to change the pups myself?)
also i noticed i feel better modding my bass to my preferences so is more like MY bass
any advice?

The QP will make a huge difference. No other mods necessary if yours is a passive bass (no battery).

I think you made the right decision. It's easier to change how a bass sounds than how it feels.

It's really easy to replace the pups, if you know how to solder. If you don't know how, now is a good time to learn!

In my experience the QP is a good upgrade for the GSR 200, which isn't a bad bass at all. You should be happy with the improvement. The one I heard and played on with that upgrade sounded great and I didn't have to use any bass or treble boost. You will have to play around a bit until you get the pickups set to the right height for optimum sound, but that's normal with any pickup.

sorry for not understanding right the english but what are pots? the things that control the volume and tone? be specific as you can beacause i dont know how the bass componets are called in english

Go for the upgrade , you say that you are happy with the way the bass feels , you wont regret the pickup upgrade

You shouldn't have to worry using the QP in the GSR 200. The preamp is active. The pickups are passive. The QP is a passive pickup. It has a bit more output than the stock passive pickup in the GSR, but not enough to cause concern. It'll drop right in and you solder the leads to the same places the stock pickup were soldered to. You'll have to fiddle a bit getting the pickup heights right but that's not a big problem at all. You'd probably have to do that with any pickup swap.
