Is it worth upgrading to a Spector?

Good afternoon/evening everyone,

About a year ago, I purchased my Ibanez SR706 as I was looking to get a 6 string bass and I happened to get it at a good price. However, I have always wanted a Spector bass, and from what I understand they are highly regarded in the bass community. I was wondering if trying to trade out my Ibanez for a Spector 6er would be worth it. Given my income situation, I would most likely be getting a Legend 6 and if need be adding new pickups and a new tone circuit. I was hoping that someone with some experience with both instruments could provide some sort of insight.

By the time you're done with the new tone circuit and pick-ups, you might as well get a Euro. Had a Legend - Great neck but... a lot of hum from the tone circuit when boosting treble or bass. Didn't care for overall tone. Tuning gears are also not as good as Euro or USA. Low E went out of tune constantly. Very irritating. Traded for new Fender American Standard "P"... WAY better in every way. Discovered that I prefer the organic tone of passive pick-ups. The Spector bodies are fairly small. Greater mass of "P" body along with string-through-body bridge gives much more depth to tone. Legend just sounded too sterile and thin. IMO

Specter legends dont impress me much. If you want a spector cause you like how it sounds and plays, then get one. Otherwise concider a naother Ibanez bass, perhaps one to two models up from yours. If want a more expensive type bass.

I play a Legend Custom. I used to play an Ibanez BTB. I can't speak for the 6 string models but there is a lot to like about the Legend. I find the highs and lows are more brilliant on the Spector where the midrange of the Ibanez had it's own charms that the Spector doesn't really.

For the money I reckon they're an absolute no brainer. Professional fit and finish. Amazing playability. I've been gigging mine for a year now and it's done very well.

IMO if you get a spector, take the time and save your money and get at least a Euro. The Euros, and American made spectors have a Killer sound, awesome tone. That would be a true upgrade. Can be used or new. Go for the quality.

Seriously. I'm not trying to be a dee eye see kay to these cats ^^ but what is the beef that people seem to have with the Legend Series??

I see this all the time on TB. Anyone who owns a Legend or Legend Custom be it a 4/5 or 6 swears by their instrument but everyone else seems to find them offensive to the name on the headstock.

They're a stupidly well made instrument for the money and I felt a significant amount of confusion when I discovered that they seem to play, feel and sound better than most any of the Rebobs which are usually more expensive. I do like the Euro's quite a lot but there is no way known that a Euro is (priced new in AU) $2000 better than a Legend. I simply can't feel or hear it.

So what is it about these instruments that has a lot of Spectorheads on here pooh poohing them? I think a Legend would be an excellent upgrade for the OP in this instance. There are other options of course but really, what's not to like about these instruments that has people suggesting he for out an extra 2k?

I had an earlier Rebop 5 with the Aguilar pre, but it wasn't a keeper. It seemed as if it fell on it's face as soon as the strings got just a little used. It then just sounded very generic to my ears. I found the laquered? finish extremely sensitive to scratching also. It was light, but did neckdive also. Rear body contour was very comfy.

I absolutely hate Ibanez basses and love Spectors. Having said that, I'm sure there are people that feel the exact opposite about it. Give one a shot! If you like it, you like it!
