Is making a strat- bass a good idea?

Stupid question, forgive me in advance, did Fender ever make a Strat bass, I always thought the P bass was the bass version.

Its similar but not the same. I think the pbass is also slighty bigger. And i want the sss pickup style which the pbass never had.

You could probably get them to fit, but it wouldn't be usable. The string spacing would be too tight.

Bottom of page one. If I was trying it, I'd look for a neck from a Squier SS Jag and a Squier Strat body and go from there.

No no i know about those basses but i want to build one my self.

That's a good enough reason. Maybe it's the only real reason to go the DIY route these days since there's so many good but affordable basses out there already.

No. A P guitar. 6 little bitty strings. Tuned an octave up from bass. Good for chords and lead.

No reason not to. If I can turn a Les Paul into a bass there's absolutely reason you can't do it to a Strat.

you could do it, You could even use regular strat pups if you wanted. the company Kahler makes bess trems that are allegedly awesome!
