Is my lead singer that bad?

Yes, but now you have associated your band with public mockery. Not a good image in my opinion.

I see your point. Funny thing is i am in my mid 20s so I should know better by know. Its funny how you can be so knowledgeable in one area but totally clueless in another. Seriously though there should be a thread about ethics it would really be beneficial. But again i have no excuse for my ignorance.

I appreciate that you see a need for improvement but you don't need an internet only ethics course. It's called decency and it exists in both the digital world and the real world.

People often show their true colors when offered anonymity.

So we finally got rid of the singer and we are looking for a replacement. We posted an add and this gentleman replied and is interested. Here is a link to some of his work. http://soundcloud.com/ernest-hampson

Help me out here guys. what do you think about his singing, i personally dont like his music but what is your opinion about his singing? thanks again for helping me out.

I like this guys style and it is more indie which I think would fit your band well. As far as the music, I thought it was good also.

As far as you mocking the other person that you posted. Not cool. Never sling mud, it never helps, it will bite you in the rear, if not it just looks bad. If something needs to be dealt with then "rearview mirror" but no need for negativity in public.

The thing is I do consider my self a decent person. If you are bad mouthing a person in front of me it usually annoys me and i am the first one to tell people that it is not cool to do so. I am also usually the peacemaker in a group. Whats with the online discrepancy then?

Because you lack a fear of reprisal. If you can't mock someone to their face then don't do it online. I'm not sure what kind of answer you're looking for but it's really quite simple.

You did something stupid. Apoligize and move on. Don't search for an internet decency wizard that you can blame.

Why didn't it occur to me then to see things like this. your point is well taken and i will erase that post. I honestly believe in correcting your mistakes as well as growing and improving as a person. But i do have an honest question. How is what i did here different than showing your friends a youtube video of a singer so off key that it makes you laugh. Aren't you also ridiculing the person? but i am pretty sure most of us do that.

I am not trying to blame anyone but myself. I just bothers me that as a person who considers himself decent with a strong moral compass, that i did something that contradict the view i have of myself.

Well give Manuel101 some credit, he's showing humility here and went back and deleted the post you quoted.

You might do the same just to tidy this all up, since your post is now the only one that has the link to the vocalist, his name, and the comments you find distasteful...

Thanks ChrisB2, I just want people to know that it is hard to admit in front of strangers that you made a mistake instead of just closing the thread. I see this as a much needed learning experience that will not only benefit me but any other potential transgressors.

Don't take it so badly. These guys are busting your balls a little hard, IMO. What you did wasn't some massive error. You deleted the post and showed some regret. You're fine.

I agree. I was going to do it if he asked me to. So, I'll go ahead and do it now.

Thanks again, but reading others point of view makes me wonder whether or not there is something wrong with my moral compass. I consider myself a very loyal, moral and decent person so when I read some of the replies it makes me question my own self-view

That Ernest guy would definitely be a step up up both in terms of singing over the old guy and songwriting in general. Sounds a bit less generic than what I've heard from your band, so joining forces could probably be a good thing.

What exactly did you not like about his music? I mean, it's not mind blowing or anything, but it's pretty solid overall, and it seems a little catchier and more interesting than what you guys are already doing. Both fall into the "basic radio rock" category, so it's not like he's doing something completely different. Not to mention people sound different working with different people. I don't play the same kind of parts in my electronic rock/pop group as I do with my darker indie rock group.

The thing is the band has other songs that are much more melodically interesting with two guitarist playing very interesting harmony but we are unable to upload it because the vocals are way off. So its hard for us to explain our newer sound with out uploading some tracks. I am not saying that the music is bad but we suspect that it might not be as marketable as our new sound.

Also this gentleman also reply to our ad
"Here is some of my work from a few different projects. you can hear and see how well i work with different kinds of music. I should have no problem singing for your band.-

I think you got the point and its all good.

But to answer your question. IMHO I think it is one thing to have a laugh with friends in privacy where it stays but different to do that publicly online and have a lasting record along with advertising it to the world.

That is why I wont make fun and comment on someone youtube video. If they want critical thinking in regards too opinion I will give negative and constructive comments. But I wont bully or make fun off. I am not innocent I am sure I have done something I shouldn't have in this respect but I try to be better. Nothing wrong with self improvement. But you cant point and say "hey just did that so it is ok for me too!!".

I like the Ernest guy and the Justin Turk the best.

I was thinking the justin guy is the best choice for now. Ernest declined the audition stating he doesn't fit our genre. The thing with justin is that he wants to create two bands. He wants to be the front man of march of the mannequins and he wants us to be his band for his solo project. Has that ever worked out the same musicians creating two bands? I worry whether or not we will be dispensable if his solo work picks up. we dont want to have to find another singer down the line.

Sounds like he just wants a backing band. Be careful.
