That's real. My tuning pegs were exactly like that and mine was still in the craft paper in the case when I bought it from the dealer in '78.

Thanks. Can you maybe tell me how to remove the "bridge", or whatever it's called. The chrome piece covering about 2-3 cm of the strings. I tried using the screws (is that what they are called?) on the side of the bridge, but the don't seem to wind off.

Uh.... What are you doing?? The big old chrome tail piece comes off with the screws under the bridge, but seriously, why are you disassembling the entire thing??

To the OP: You have to remove the pickup surround to get that off.

You see the chrome "bridge" on one of the pictures, but not on the other. I don't know what that piece is called.

I read the the wire channel is supposed to be something like this. At least it's not supposed to be a straight channel.

The Ric-O-Sound thing is another issue. It doesn't say that on the jack plate no.

The wire channel looks like that on my '73 and none of the Rics I've owned say Ric O Sound on the tailpiece. All mine have said is "mono", "stereo" and have the serial number stamped. It's real.

Well mine doesnt even say mono or stereo. Is that pressed into the jack plate, or written on with some kind of paint that could be scraped off?

It was paint and it wears off easily.

The drill press holes for the neck pickup wire route are normal, my '72 has them, and the Rick o Sound and the Standard jack labels have almost completely worn off my 4001 and '86 4003, so I'd say that's a non-issue on this bass. These labels appear to be something like a decal and aren't etched into the metal, where as the serial number is stamped into jack plate.

Okay. Good to know Can you tell me which of the jack holes are mono, and which are stereo?

Also, the knobs don't seem to be working. Is that common problem?
