Is REDDI still the industry standard?

I've tried the REDDI, and can't fault it. Great sounding box. BUT, I LOVE MY NOBLE! Best Pre/DI that I've tried. FOH loves it, it sounds great going straight to an amp to speaker, into the EFX return, or into the main input. Check out the videos on their site.

The Noble sounds really good, too. Damn it.

It seems to go for about $200 more than the REDDI though and I am really liking the REDDI's baked in sound regardless of its lack of versatility... Hmm...

This is so hard.

I’ve never tried a REDDI but have listened to all the shootouts.
Made up my mind that I like the Broughton P-15 the best, REDDI second, and just waited for one to come up used.
I found and bought one and I’m really happy with it and GAS free (well, GAS free as far as DI’s go, haha).

Just to clarify, you bought the Broughton when it came up used, or the REDDI? Also does anyone know if Broughton can still make the P-15s? I emailed them through their site, but if anyone knows offhand that would be great !

Broughton still makes them but there's a (long) waiting list from what I gather. I've got and love my Noble. Others you may want to consider are Jule Monique and Sonic Farm 2DI4.

Yep. When they first came out I contacted them and asked to be put on the waiting list.... Two years later I was contacted to see if I was still interested in one. By that time I had acquired my REDDI, the Neve RNDI and a couple of Radial DIs so I passed.

Not sure what the wait time is like now but if you go the Broughton route, be prepared for a long one.

When I got into digital recording I never thought recording the bass well would be more challenging than recording every other instrument, but for me it was. I was never happy with my results. The REDDI changed that for me and I am forever grateful. Now my bass sounds closer to the great way it used to sound when recording to two inch tape.

I have an API TranZformer LX as well. That's a different animal in that it's basically a full-on, floor-mounted channel strip for bass guitar; mic pre / compression / EQ all in one unit.

I've used mine live going from the unit directly into a power amp. It's an incredible box!

Yes it is a channel strip
I use it as a pre for my amp and for all my sessions. The studio has a Reddi but they’re getting the api as well now after seeing mine lol

The first time I brought it to a gig with my country band the drummer liked it so much he forbade me from using anything else after that.

I tried a REDDI. It didn't do it for me. I went back to my JDI. Noe I use a OCSD as my DI so I guess I keep going backward, but I love what it gives me in my IEM's and the FOH guys seem to like it as well. Different strokes I guess.

I have both a REDDI and a Noble. They both have gotten great results and praise from soundman and producers, it really just depends on what sort of sound you want. I’ve found that I can make my Noble sound *like* the REDDI (not exactly like it but rather a close approximation), however the REDDI will never do anything but what it does.

Between the two I honestly prefer the Noble as I like that it doesn’t “take over my sound, but adds just enough of something extra” to my tone (not to mention it’s smaller, can power pedals and the shop owner Jack is awesome to work with). It really boils down to if you are happy with it’s “baked-in” sound...because it’ll never do anything else.

+1 on all of this, the Noble is by far my best purchase ever. Extremely versatile, always sound like the best tone I've ever heard.

Same!! Our sound guy live when I didn’t take it for a gig was like *** dude there’s no low end lol

Every DI, No matter what it is, has a BAKED IN sound. Every Console has its baked in sound, API, NEVE, QUAD Eight, SSL etc. Every Speaker has a baked in sound. Every Bass has a baked in sound. Everything has a SOUND that is baked in.. .

why would anyone want a DI with a 'baked in' sound? IME: the best DI's are "transparent" or close to it. YMMV.

This is my Road REDDI.. I have it on my one pedal board that goes into a Hard Case for travel. This one is dented etc. My home studio REDDI is still pristine

SSL are considered transparent. But they have a Baked in sound..Its the reason engineers LOVE the 2 BUSS on them.. Avalon is considered transparent but they have a baked in sound. I am really blessed to work with grammy winning and broadcast engineers often and am around this all the time, They often smirk when people use that catch phrase .. They sort a know this stuff.. Everything sorta has a baked in sound.. In one way or the other .. Some less than others.. Every record we hear has so much processing that it is NOT like the original source. People forget about that

The P-15. The reason I said to find a used one is that it may be a shorter wait.
