Is Rock and Roll Dead? Not quite yet...

Came across this on YouTube, a bunch of kids covering my favorite Head East song from back in the day. I played it, not expecting much, but man, they totally rocked it.

And then they did this:

I was blown away, young kids, covering songs over forty years old and doing them with a passion and energy that should inspire all of us who do covers to imitate.

So yeah, rock is definitely dead.

I've seen "25 or 6 to 4" massacred by too many bands that should have known better.

While it may be uplifting, affirming, it still means that Rock has been institutionalized, formalized, it’s not from the street. Or, in my case, from the garage, when a bunch of kids cajoled their disapproving parents into buying a bunch of gear from Sears or Wards so thay could make a racket out there. We fought for our right to party.

Man, in just the last year or two we've had bands come out that sound like Zeppelin (see Greta Van Fleet, 'Midnight Special'), Jefferson Airplane (Dorothy, 'Who do you love'), and even GNR (Dirty Honey, 'When I'm gone')... plus the old school british invasion type sounds like the Struts and stuff like that. I dig plenty of weirdo lesser known stuff, but I actually don't mind some of what's on the radio these days!

They are really having fun... that kind of energy is contagious.

Also,,, notice how many girls (young women) are on stage doing the thing.

I don't think you would have seen that in the past. Certainly not in my younger days when I was starting out - joining a band was pretty much all guys.
There are of course exceptions thought the history of music, and there have always been "girl bands", but I think there's a big shift happening. Not just in music, obviously, but it's cool to see in a video like this.
Seems like a pretty good majority of pop music is now by women - see Amazon's prime day concert = 4 women headliners. From the looks of the video, it's not just pop, but rock&roll too.

Those guys/gals are friggin' awesome. I love how when someone steps on her cord and unplugs her while she's Terry Kathing it out, and it doesn't faze her a bit. Someone plugs it back in and she doesn't miss a beat.

Since i watched the Latin Grammy's, I have been listening to Monsieur Perine, a Columbian band who developed their own original sound. Latin influenced, world beat, horns, string bass, gypsy selmer guitar and really great vocals and harmony.
I just can't bring myself to listen to processed vocals and drum machine beats from modern popular music.
seeing young people rocking out does give me hope as I thought Rock was if not dead at least on life support (Levophed drip).

That was also one of my takeaways watching these, if "dad bands" are doing rock covers they gotta bring "the juice" every time instead of just going through the motions.
