It's definitely their loss. People just seem to have too much invested in the idea that there aren't any good bands anymore.

Rock music isn't dead. The industry has changed and is continuing to change. The days of starting a band, getting a following, having a hit record and becoming a multi-millionaire are over, but that's just the delivery system.
The fact that the infintisimal percentage of total music created today that is played on the radio consists primarily of generic pablum designed not to excite, but to not offend doesn't mean that there isn't a lot of great rock music still being written and performed. You just have to look for it.

the guitar craze inspired a ton of people to play increasingly uninspiring music.
as always, sift thru enuf of it and a few gems still appear, but I usually default to my old faves.
