Is the line 6 relay g50 any good?

Yeah, take it easy on me Walter, I have never even been in close proximity to a wireless before much less have a working understanding of them. Hence the questions. :)

I am hoping to go up and pick one up tomorrow and will check out both units before making a decision, though I think I am leaning toward the G50.

if you do indeed have a pedalboard, and are only gonna use wireless with that setup, then it might make sense to mount the receiver there (first in line of course :))

my wireless gets used for different bands with different instruments, so i keep it on the separate little board i posted earlier; it stays on top of whatever amp i'm using, with the same long cable i would be using without it plugged into the receiver instead of straight to me.

that way if things go really south i can yank the cable out of the receiver, plug it right into my instrument, and keep on truckin'.

if you do go for the G50, be sure it's a new one with the metal mini-jack.

I am pretty sure I will be going with the G50. I went up to GC to buy it and lo and behold they were out of stock, as was the G30. They had one G90. The kid tried to talk me into some other Sennheisers and Shures or whatever. He said it would be a couple weeks before they got any more in. I would like to buy it on-line, but if I do I won't be able to physically check and see that it is a new one.

I use the same pedalboard and only have one band so I will probably mount it there. I am assuming the mini cable that comes with it is unacceptable, so I will get the one in that link up there I reckon, as well as a pouch to put it in.

the included little cable is OK, nothing more.

i just rolled my own from some good skinny signal cable and better ends (switchcraft TA4F), so it's just the right length and has a switchcraft 90° end on it.

(i made a few actually, a spare or two is always a good idea.)

the pouch is cool, i just gaff tape my beltpack to the strap. in one band i'm switching between two guitars, so i use a longer connector cable and clip the beltpack to my belt.

That's a good idea. A fan of my bands has become our cable guy. He fixes all our stuff for the cost of parts. I may have him make me a few up. Thanks Walter.

I have an update:
On our highest profile gig yet, my G50 that I have used live 3 times, didn't work. Lights came on but no signal and no reading on the LCD panel. I panicked, tried everything but 5 minutes to go-time I had to go cable. I was CRUSHED.
I keep this unit in it's ORIGINAL foam packaging at home and don't use it for practice. It is pristine and looks like it came off the shelf.

Good part of the story:
I bought from Sweetwater back in October and they have a 2 year warranty so they emailed me a FedEx shipping label and are going to send me out a completely new G50 setup.

I will stick with Shure because this seemed to be an absolutely weird thing to happen but...

+1 to Sweetwater :)

did you check that the channel knob didn't get bumped on the receiver? after that, did you have a spare connector cable?

those would have been the first two things to check.

I have beat the crap out of my G50 and x2 transmitters. Still going strong even after rough gigs, stepped on and cracked antenna. Great wireless. Hasn't let me down yet.

There are 3rd party companies that make quality cable replacements. I advise strongly. The included one is pretty cheap.
