My god that is beautiful. I love how the headstock matches the color of the body. I wish there were more P basses with headstocks matching the body.

My HWY1 P-Bass gets gigs by itself, if i show up to shows or rehearsals with another bass, i often get the stink eye. Generally gets most jobs done with the old fingers/plectrum/tone up/tone down combo. I might get sick of it...but i don't see it happening anytime soon.

Listen to the P voices, they will not steer you wrong.

I REPENT! I REPENT! I'll go buy a p bass first thing in the morning! Lord forgive me. I thought that jazz bass was just a name. Please dont send me to the actual jazz lounge!

Believe it or not, some of RHCP's tune sound really good played with a P. Maybe a little harder to play, but it sounds good. Notice I didn't say "better" because that a personal choice of which is "better".

Do you think the reason P basses (and jazz basses for that matter) are so popular are because ... they're so popular? What I mean is because they're so ubiquitous, most peoples' first bass as a kid was probably a p bass, so maybe that's why people come back to them as adults, "it just feels right" sort of thing. Mine was, a cheap imitation (which sounds fine), I got it cause it was what I could afford.

I'd guess that this is the main factor in their popularity vs any inherent properties of the thing?

I'm pretty indifferent to them myself, and find the look dead boring because of their ubiquity and I feel like people just play them because they're there... but then again pino palladino plays one.

P basses and Jazz basses (to a slightly lesser extent) are very good simplistic designs. They do what they do very well with nothing that you don't need. The problem with them isn't really with them but with the people who hype them AD NAUSEAM! P basses are great, they don't need 75 threads a week defending them. They don't need people telling people to "just git a dang P bass with tha flats and some torts" when they are asking about Ibanez, Schecter, Yamaha......etc. They don't need people to make false claims about them to make them seem better. They don't need people putting down every other type of bass that is different. They don't need there to be a "P bass thing".



P bass fanboyz, P basses don't need you.

Every week there are a few 'why Fender' or what's the big deal on P basses, etc.

You don't get that for most other brands.

There are also many basses who have heard the hype and seen them everywhere, who get blown away when they actually use one on a gig or buy one for the first time.

So it's understandable P like threads get started, and they inevitably attract the detractors and those that need to point out the pointlessness of another P thread, as infinitum.

I find it a bit boring but I just ignore the things I don't like, and participate once in a while for the fun of it.

But every thread like this you start or post on only makes it worse, not better.

If that's all you've got to offer, I guess so!

But if TB became that useless and boring to me I'd find another way to spend my time.
