Is There A Fender In Your Stable?

None, not a single one ever. It seems to me that the technology and art of making basses has made the need for string trees obsolete through the miracle of the angled head stock. I will never own a bass with a string tree. It would be like owning a phone you have to plug into the wall. Please.

That is your BIG problem with Fenders?? String Trees???

The string tree is only one of a myriad of problems I have. There are the number of frets and the fact that I feel an asymmetrical bolt pattern to attach a neck is stronger and more stable than the one Fender employs. I was born in the sixties, I don't feel the need to play an instrument designed in the sixties.

Ok.. I can accept that. But changing things just for the sake of change or because certin opinions believe you should does not make it necessary or warranted. In other words... If it aint broke dont fix it. JMO

Hey - and if I had more money, I'd be buying all the pre-CBS Fenders I could possibly get my hands on. They are not only GREAT basses, but GREAT investments, IMHO.

+1; all other headstocks look like weird wannabes of the Fender shape to me (Valenti, Sadowsky, Lull, Suhr, and esp. Alleva Coppolo).

Hi Dave, I would like to know what shape I and the other builders you mentioned could use without trade mark infringement and the possibility of being sued by Fender. If you have a better design please let me know.

The Fender bass headstock only really looks good because we've had 50 years to get used to it. Personally I think that it's a clumsy and awkward enlargement of the Stratocaster head and some of the more modern alternatives are far more elegant.

And also if Leo had picked one of those all those years ago people would be saying exactly the same about that design....
