Seeing everyone and their mom play a Fender drives me crazy. IMHO, there are plenty of excellent bass choices out there for everyone. I enjoy when people find their own unique voice through an instrument that is different from what the masses are constantly playing.

I own 20 basses at the moment and none of them are by Fender or even close to being a Fender-alike. I had a Squier VMJ Fretless for about 6 months because it was good value for money and because the next best fretless I'd tried cost £1400. Then I got offered a great deal on a Pedulla Buzz and it never got played it again so it got sold on (one of only 2 basses I've ever sold).

I have two shades of CIJ Fender VI:s.

One Jaguar Bass VI (which I'm thinking of transforming into a baritone):

Both are excellent instruments.

I'm the opposite, I can't stand anything but Fender headstocks. Fender basses were all I associated with music while growing up.

+1; all other headstocks look like weird wannabes of the Fender shape to me (Valenti, Sadowsky, Lull, Suhr, and esp. Alleva Coppolo).

only had my stratocaster out of the case once in the last two years, that's a bigger shame.

Me too. Fenders have a great sound, but lots of basses have a great sound. They seem so generic to me now. You just see them everywhere. I don't enjoy playing them at all, either. I'll never own one as long as I live.

Also, spending thousands on a Fender is also just insane to me.

My last four basses (and the two I own right now) are all Fenders.

Partly because boutique is wasted on me: I'm a minimalist, and my idea of a beautiful bass is my '51 Precision reissue.

Mostly because Fender Precisions do it for me. Every other bass I've tried has either not sounded the way I wanted or included too much frou frou.

Never had a Fender. Got a Sadowsky, an Ibanez Blazer (P-Bass Copy) and a EBMM Stingray (not sure if this counts as a Fendet type bass though)
