Is there a forum for Standard Notation, and tools like Musescore, Finale, etc.?

I cannot find an appropriate forum to discuss standard notation. Do we need one, or should one of the forum be used, and it added to the description?

It seems like standard notation is on it's way out, and I've been under a rock. Or it seems that very few want to discuss it.

i didn't realize it was on it's way out...everyone i play with depends on standard notation like it was....today!

there are reasons:
- some take it for granted: they read music and it's no big deal... e.g., 'what's to discuss'?
- some don't need it: they have great ears, a real work ethic, and gigs which do not require it...e.g., "i'm doing great without it."
- some don't care: they can make 'noise' without any skills, e.g., "who needs it?!!"
- some are afraid: the dots, the meaning(s) of the dots, etc., e.g., "it's too much like school."
- some have no clue: they may not know that standard notation is just a way of getting into other peoples' minds, via 'coding'.

i read music and i don't really want to discuss it much: i do a fair amount of writing and arranging so 'i've got my own problems', as it were! but: i hope you get the stimulation you need right here on TB --- maybe i'll chime in on some of your discussions! good luck!

One of my musical adventures is playing weekly with a community band of locals of all ages. We play arrangements for horns exclusively. If you don’t read dots, you can’t play those arrangements properly even if you know the songs. When they’re played right it sounds wonderful and is very satisfying.
It’s a challenge though - I’m not a brilliant reader but I get by with a bit of homework sometimes for the tricky stuff. Written notation is certainly alive and well but you won’t find it in most pub/bar gigs.
