... NO ONE needs a 4x12 for guitar. ...

If someone wants to build a cab with four twelves in a two over two configuration the least I can do is provide them with the means to do it properly. Whether they actually need four twelves is another question entirely, to which I will always answer: No.Interesting...

Our lead player uses a Boogie Mark I, and seems to be able to get any sound, including great feedback sounds, from one measly 12in. speaker. I can also make any of the bass players who've used my PJB BG800 happy with the tone they get from it. A little tweaking with the EQ and it works great for the slap sounds or the vintage tones. Knowing how to use your rig has always been the key.
In terms of output one twelve is all you need for any stage, and for that matter even most rooms without PA. IME most guitar players who use a 4x12 do so because their heros do. Then they can't get 'my sound' without cranking the bejesus out of the damn things, screwing up the works for all involved. Want to know the number one complaint of pro-touring sound men? 4x12s, because they can't balance them with the PA. I'm not talking bar bands, nor even mid-level acts, I'm talking about national and international acts in 10,000 plus seat venues. Using them for 100 seats? Ludicrous.
It's Freudian compensation for lack of size in another area.I often wonder myself why guitarists feel the need to have so many drivers when they can crush me with 1.
Btw it is poor planning to count on foh or monitors. A band should be able to rock on backline alone.
aw, you know, i don't care what anyone says, i like the look of big rigs. it would be odd to see ac/dc without a ton of marshall cabs. it would probably be better if they didn't turn them all onIt's Freudian compensation for lack of size in another area.![]()
