That VW is just too sweet. I bet you gave some extra care for that one.
I wouldn't sell it as it's obviously something you care about pretty much. It wouldn't devalue the item bought for the money, but it would certainly make some tension towards it.
Maybe I'm exaggerating but ah well. Your choice.

As I stated in the original post, I have a Jetta that I drive to work and practice and whatnot, the Rabbit is just my toy for the summer. It gets garaged most of the year. I have a feeling that I would use the basses more than I use the Rabbit.

One of my friends had one in high school (bought it new) - it had great acceleration and gas mileage even with an automatic transmission. Keep the car.

Now if it was a '78 Pacer like the one gathering dust in my in-laws garage, I would urge selling but you'd be lucky to have enough for a Squier Affinity.

Those basses are unbelievable. If you don't drive the car often, I say you can't go wrong with the basses.

And maybe if you've got money left over, you can save that for something else you might be in need of later, bass related or otherwise. Good luck!

I don't care much for cars but I do think the Rabbit was pretty cool. The Pacer had it's own kind of charm too. Basses on the other hand are a lot cheaper to maintain, last much longer and make music instead of CO2.

I'm not a big fan of VW's or 80's cars in general. However, it looks like that car is in fantastic condition. I would think you would have a hard time replacing it if you decided you wanted another one down the road. Does this particular car have any sentimental value to you?

Funny story about this... I traded my '74 Gibson SG Custom for my current ride. I'd do it again. In your situation (especially with other wheels) I wouldn't think twice.

I was going to mention that. Perhaps in ten years the basses will net you an even sweeter car, but when you throw the ladies into the equation you have to seriously consider keeping the car.

I sell auto parts by day, and I hate VWs, as does everyone else I know in this business! Nothing but trouble.

Cars depreciate in value unless they're collectable and there's a market close enough to you for said specific vintage auto (and '84 is not really vintage) . Try checking out Barrett Jackson auctions.

Vintage basses appreciate in value, unless you beat the crap out of them, or they're just unpopular (two pictured are very popular, and in quite good condition).

If you can get those basses for that car, DO IT!

If you LOVE that car, then it's a tough decision, but for me it wouldn't take a fraction of a second to decide.
Sell the car, buy the basses, and get a reliable beater vehicle (Cavalier/Sunfire for example: not many points for style, but they get the job done and just don't break down often, and when they do they're cheap and easy to fix).
