Yes they did! While the OP pic is totally bogus, the Precision Special from 80-83 did in fact have a rectangular string tree, although they were gold plated.

I do not believe Fender ever made a decal that large foe any instrument. The decal is a fake, the bass??? No telling, I need to see the whole thing. Unless it is less than $100.00, I would leave it alone.

I came here for advice. I'm a guitar player, but I think I found a sweet deal... the issue is I've never seen a fender with a decal that looks like this, so I haven't bought it yet.

What's wrong with that picture.....The decal is wrong. The string tree is in the wrong place. Fenders have a distinct curve in the headstock (near the "R"), this one is wrong. The fretboard and nut area on that bass wouldn't pass a Fender, or Squier QC, (both are sloppy)..I wouldn't buy it at any price...this coming from a guy that sometimes gigs a $119 SX bass...for kicks.

Thanks Jm, I'm gonna wait to see what else people have to say. It seems a bit questionable. I found it on wallapop. I bought a guitar off there before with no issues, but this just looks strange. I'm not a bass player, so there's a lot I don't know though.

To reiterate - not my point. You're preaching to the choir on the ethics of selling and for the better good of mankind. I haven't seen the ad (wasn't posted) so have no way of knowing the sellers intent or the price of that obviously manipulated bass. On that basis alone my irreverent comment was aimed at the comical size of the decal - period.

Like I said, this wasn't the time for the decal/counterfeiting police to chime in.

I'll hope those who "liked" it did so for my intended delivery related to how so far off authentic that decal is and if not, for the record - I wish malice on no one. I'll also go so far as to say that those who "liked" it mean no malice as well.

Would you believe I've seen one of those before? That's a rare Chrome Fender!

Back when I was in high school (many many moons ago) a friend's parents fell for one of those at a local music store and bought it for my buddy as a Christmas present one year. Sounded pretty good actually. But it still wasn't a Fender.
