Is this a fake fender

The person that applied that decal couldn't have possibly expected anybody to believe its a real fender. I mean look at the size of that thing!

Wow that's big. Who in hell even MAKES a Fender decal that big? More likely, someone traced around a Fender amp badge, then filled in with Sharpie.
I've got a strat copy someone did in, I'm assuming, Sharpie. I'll have to snag a picture of the headstock when I get home.
In fairness, I'm sure Leo's first logo wasn't rendered in Illustrator.

My point was specifically focused on that decal alone and leveling this beating a dead-horse issue against that specific hs decal is laughable.
If you are NOT kidding - here's the rule - any deal that seems too good to be true almost certainly is (not true). If you have doubts independent of the ones that come from "this is too cheap for what they say it is" - it almost DEFINITELY is not true. If you are a non-expert on the topic and you have questions about the item in question - WALK AWAY - it's is a near inevitability that it's a rip off.
Finally - if the Fender Decal looks like THAT - it is a fake.
While I disagree with the individual who is suggesting that this is relevant to the counterfeit wars. I do have to say that this individual is indeed attempting to pass this product off as a Fender - therefore it is a counterfeit in the truest sense of the word - just a VERY BAD one.
As far as someone deserving to be hosed? No one deserves to be tricked and ripped off, ever. Even if they get tricked by attempting to "get away with" something themselves (the Bernie Madoff model of finance).
More importantly, think of all the people that really have no business knowing "better" who could be taken by this - ie imagine you're a 14 year old kid with a bunch of talent and poor parents. Now, they go out and do their best to get you something good that they can afford. They've been told "Fender is good" and they see this in the want ads and buy it for you - did they "deserve" to be taken? Nope.

To reiterate - not my point. You're preaching to the choir on the ethics of selling and for the better good of mankind. I haven't seen the ad (wasn't posted) so have no way of knowing the sellers intent or the price of that obviously manipulated bass. On that basis alone my irreverent comment was aimed at the comical size of the decal - period.
But if so, why bother to post in response at all if you feel you're above it all?

If you've got experience and knowledge I think it's a much better thing to share it, rather than use it as a justification for knocking someone else for not having it. Anything you can think of is probably a 'first time' for somebody out there.

Ok, for the sake of argument ("argument" in its most neutral sense - I am not starting an argument, it's a term) - do you know anyone personally who was scammed by someone selling a falsely decal'd Fender bass or guitar. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I'm offering that this "epidemic" that is resurged daily on tb is primarily for entertainment purposes. In fact, I too have posted such when I happen across one that is so off it's funny. But just for the record - before I post such here on tb, I send a message to the seller (usually on eBay) informing them in a respectfully polite way that the authenticity of the instrument they are selling is suspect. I have had the seller return a message thanking me for helping point that out, and then change the information to disclose that information. I have also had sellers tell me to mind my own business - which frankly, I should. But then I know someone is scamming - and I report them to eBay. I sell on eBay too so I have skin-in-the-game, as in - I want that platform to be held to a standard and viewed as such. So anything (ok, most things) related that ends up here on a tb thread could have been ended at the source. So why post here? So tb'rs can be entertained.

Well, my first, high-school art teacher did instruct us to fill up as much "negative space" as we could. Perhaps the "artiste" was a student of hers too?
