Is this a Fender??

Local guy selling this as a Fender, but I know the headstock isn't shaped like a Fender....not like mine anyway....but I figured with all of the Fender experts on here, you would be able to tell immediately.

Not a bad thing at all, but, they're most definitely not Fenders, and should not be sold as such.

OP: Track this guy down, and deck him for trying to pull one over on you.

I don't think he is trying to pull one over...I think he was just misinformed from whoever he got it from....he said they told him it used to have a Fender decal on it.

I didn't think it was a Fender, just wanted to double check...

That may be the case, but there are always scammers who play the clueless game when trying to sell their junk to unsuspecting buyers. Then again, he may actually be THAT clueless.

There's a very good chance of that and it goes both ways. My guitarist was telling me about an old frend he'd visited a few weeks ago. This guy's father played bass for awhile back in the 60's but before the decade was out gave it up and put his '62 Fender Jazz and Ampeg Portaflex into storage. Well just recently his son decided he wanted to start playing music and although he's learning guitar he figured he could use his dad's old equipment to record with and just wank around on. Well this guy has no idea just how valuable the bass is because he leaves it lying around on the concrete floor in the basement where he 'jams' and 'records'. He doesn't bother using the Portaflex because it's just not loud enough for his tastes and it doesn't have cool tone shaping knobs and a sub-bass switch:rolleyes:. His dad also has no clue just what both bass and amp are worth... he views them as old junk from his younger days.

That bass and amp could be worth a helluva lot if it gets off that dang concrete floor.A '62 original could go for as much for $10k+ on the 'Bay from what I've say.

I've gone to buy some of those 62 Jazz bases and Portaflex amps with plenty of C notes only to find out that they were not the real deal ... much like the bass in the photo

Seems like the days of the Burst that was stored under the bed and the kid died in Viet Nam, or Dad's old custom color Strat in the attic are pretty much over (not that many were real 25 years ago)

What a crying shame.:rollno:

If I were you, I'd see if I could at least get the old Ampeg off of the guy's hands. Since he and his father have no idea what they've got, and obviously don't value either the bass or the amp, it seems like a prime opportunity.

Who knows? You might just walk away with one of the most sought after rigs in the bass world.
