Is this a good setup for...

Hey everyone.. so I’be finally getting back into playing/touring again after a nearly ten year break.

Looking at this setup for a five piece Jamaican ska/rocksteady band (I was in a ska band back in the day 1996-2008).

I’m thinking an Orange AD200B through an Ampeg heritage 410HLF played with a Gibson SG/flatwounds.

I love 15”s but I don’t think one 15 would do the job, and the Ampeg 410HLF seems like a good do all cab.

A lot of us greatly prefer a vertically stacked pair of 2x10s rather than a 4x10 box. This arrangement has numerous advantages, but perhaps the biggest is that it gets some speakers up closer to your ears so you can hear yourself over the other instruments while standing in front of it. (It's also nice to have your amp sitting up closer to eye level for easy access.)

It should work out just fine

Especially today, speaker size means nothing other than the size of the speaker - bigger drivers do not necessarily go lower. But yeah, you want to get them up higher - 410s are not the best sonic option, since they are aimed at your knees
They're also coupled to the floor giving you much more bass response...reggea/ska

I'm with the 610hlf guy

Just my $0.02, but in a large band touring on a low budget I think that a 200 watt tube head and a 410 might be a bit overkill in terms of space on stage and in the van. I get that this is only a 5 piece so space may not be at an absolute premium, but if there are a bunch of mic'd horns on stage then stage volume also becomes an issue. In my opinion, if you are in a working band or trying to establish yourself, you might make better friends in your sound techs and venue operators if you make the switch to a small combo and a high quality DI, doubly so if you are hauling your own PA and it has decent subs.

If you are established and you are in a position to negotiate good terms with sound techs and venues, then that rig will probably get you an awesome sound.

it’s a five piece. With guitar, drums, keys, bass, and one horn player.

back when I was touring a lot (over ten years ago) and playing large stages with supplied back lines and huge PA system I would only bring my bass and a REDDI tube DI.

This band is just forming and I was thinking the 410HLF would be a good for all shows type of deal.. (small shows without drums, guitar and bass going through the PA to large stages with full support)

I think this is overstated. Most 2x10 cabs still sound like 2x10 cabs and most 15’s still sound like 15’s. There may be many exceptions but they are still exceptions.
All things equal, I don't think 10's and 15's have a specific sound. One brand's 15" might be brighter than another brand's 10". Each speaker has it's own characteristics, regardless of size.

Save weight, and your spine. Give the Mesa Subway 115, or two a go ..
Our own @gustobassman uses one, or two depending the situation for reggae and Ska-ish tunes with amazing results

Nice. It sounds like you have the situation under control and don't mind the extra schlep.

I'd still prefer something a little more modular, like two 2x10 cabs, but I tend to play either legit PA-supported stages with just a DI or little tiny places where a 100W solid state combo does the trick.
