Here's what I'd do.
Find a website selling a used equivalent Squier bass.
Then find a website that sells Fender waterslide decals.
Show these to the seller.
Ask him to prove it's a Fender and you'll talk Fender prices.
If he can't, ask him if he will talk Squier prices.

It's a fake. No made or crafter in japan on the back of the neck. And I don't ever recall seeing a japan fender with truss rod access like that. Japanese fenders have the truss at the heel

My '04-'05 Fender Aerodyne has the truss rod adjustment at the headstock...

My '04-'05 Fender Aerodyne has the truss rod adjustment at the headstock...

I'm sorry I meant the jazz and precision type reissues. Like the 62RI and 66RI jazz's that came out of the Japanese factory of which it appears this bass is being ticketed I would think a 66RI.
I forgot about the aerodyne's. Thank you for pointing that out.

For sake of curiosity how you would compare them?

No truss adj at the head stock on the 62 Japan RI pictured. OP has the truss adj at the headstock.


I've wanted a 60s Jazz RI in LPB/Turquoise with matching HS for sometime.
Haven't come across any Japan 60s RI w/ matching head stock that had the truss adj up top.
I'm not a Fender expert by any stretch, so it's possible.

I was on the fence, but now that the pics show no decals on the back of the neck heel, I'm convinced it's a fake. The truss rod access point and extra fret are further proof. I'd pass, even in light of a price drop. That thing, as pretty as it is, is a pack of lies waiting to unfold.

All these posts saying "It might be" based on the decal, the extra screw or the truss rod opening. But if it's got an extra fret, game over. No serial number is just the icing on the cake. Even if it's a "player", it's supposed to be a Fender, and it's not.

I wouldn't do it.....extra fret and the flat area on the heel extends way too far out from the body too.

Even if it's real I wouldn't buy from anyone who takes pictures like that. There are too many other fish in the sea to deal with people who are either deceptive or stupid (or both).

I think it's half real. I think it's an MIJ RI body that's had the neck replaced. The body clearcoat is more yellowed than the headstock.

That's a lot of neck heel sticking out of the body. Not a Fender Japan neck. It could be 35" scale now!

Also like I said earlier the top position markers are completely wrong. Every fender and even squier I have ever seen has half the marker on the rosewood and half on the maple
