Is this a real Musicman color?

If you're not sure about it I'd pass.
The price is decent but there is virtually no info in the listing.
I would need to know if the electronics were original and working before I put a bid on it.
The color in the link above seems to be the same color. If so, I'd say that's somewhat rare as I've never seen one in the wold in that color.
With that said, I'm not a fan of the color.
It's missing the mute assembly on the bridge, which would be difficult to source and replace with actual Music Man parts.

Ended at $1231. Really good deal if its legit. But I sent a message yesterday about the electronics and other stuff but they never got back. Left a bad taste in my mouth so I didn't put in a bid. But still a great price even if everything needed to be replaced haha.

It would be difficult to find actual MM parts of that era to replace with, if you had to, and if that mattered to you.
The pickup looks to be original but I would still like to have it confirmed, preferably with detailed pictures so I could judge for myself.

You know, I have an inca silver bass and I did not recognize the color of that MM. Once the color was identified, though, I think I remember reading how the old clearcoat would yellow and effectively tint the silver so that it looked more yellow/gold than green/silver. If I hadn't remembered that, though, I probably would have been a little nicer about questioning whether it was inca silver. Just a suggestion.

IMO, $1200 for that bass is a good deal, even is it is missing the mutes and turns out to have had the electronics replaced. If it is playable, the neck, body, and other hardware would be worth that much to me.

Yes, I know it looks "gold":bored: - the bass started off as silver but due to age most do yellow with age to a more gold color.
Just a friendly suggestion to use google and check out other examples of Inca Silver Musicman Stingrays yourself before jumping to erroneous conclusions and questioning fellow TB'ers eyesight. That's my wife's job.


To the op: You know, I can see your hesitation on pulling the trigger. The bass wasn't in the best shape and you didn't receive clarification on the condition of the bass from the seller. That alone would have triggered a few red flags in my head. Might have still been worth it, but might have needed work to get it going. Like you, if I had more disposable income, then maybe. I think you were right in deciding not to pull the trigger.

Don't know. Tuners looked like schalllers from the blurry pic but it's hard to tell. Not sure if they're stock, I seem to remember pre EB stingrays having Musicman on the tuners. Did they switch to Schaller at some point?

Those tuners are replacements. Although Schaller did and still does make the tuners for MM, yes the preEB also had the MM logos.

where did the mutes go? finding those might be a challenge unless the mutes off a classic bridge would fit... I probably wouldn't buy a vintage mm.there's too many risks like if the pre doesn't work and its one of the black epoxy coated ones it would be fun fixing it... why not just go with a classic stingray? you get all the features of a vintage one but its brand new? guitar center is still blowing out musicman stuff. I just snagged a classic for 929!
