where did the mutes go? finding those might be a challenge unless the mutes off a classic bridge would fit... I probably wouldn't buy a vintage mm.there's too many risks like if the pre doesn't work and its one of the black epoxy coated ones it would be fun fixing it... why not just go with a classic stingray? you get all the features of a vintage one but its brand new? guitar center is still blowing out musicman stuff. I just snagged a classic for 929!

Heard the classics aren't as good...and vintage Stingrays aren't all that much $1500-$2k. But under $1k for a classic is pretty tempting.

I have heard otherwise tb seems to think the classics are great. Id still much rather have a new bass than a beat up old one. you never know how long pre has left. its only a matter of time before it dies. I could be 5 years maybe 20 you never know...

So how do you get a cheap classic from GC? Just checked the website and they're all above $1k...even the used ones.

That's really not a worry. The pre could last forever. Plenty of old electronics out there still work perfectly.

first don't check the website go into your nearest store... there was a new classic in eldorado gold on the wall for 1129. I had a 200 off coupon from buying my last stingray about a month ago... that brought the price down to 929!

Music Mans are maybe on the same level 76 to 79 Fenders are under 2k. I played a 76 Stingray from my music teacher he claims its one of the first built. I played and its sounds nicer then any new one even classics the body has no contour it is slab. He told me that Steve Miller offered him a lot of money for it. Steve Miller found out through a club owner in the city. i think he said it was in the first 100 built. I played a piece of history and sound blew me away
