Ummm, Don Cab are competent musicians who can play in multiple time signatures at once. Barring their early albums, they usually play clean-tone or slightly distorted. NOTHING on that clip resembles Don Cab!

I kind of liked the single note guitar part but otherwise dumb.

I like the style fine (especially BTBaM -- good call) but some of the bands linked here aren't great. Especially that first one. I don't much like the vocals.

NOT, I can go to any death metal show and half the audience will be doing the same exact vocal just as well as the "singer," I can go to a Queensryche or Priest show and the best you will hear is everyone yelling in falsetto like a bad SNL skit.

But, luckily most just listen.

Sorry death metal grunting takes no real talent or skill no matter how much you like it.

Hahaha!

Queensryche and Judas Priest have high pitched singers. Most people can't even reach that pitch without sounding like a teenager again.

The grunting is not like the vocalists (yeah, I don't call it a singer either). The thing is, you're hearing it all at once, like a chorus. You can't tell who's doing what. Get them one at a time on stage and you'll notice the difference.

The band also matters a lot. For every Queensryche and Judas Priest, there are 100 singers who can't stay in key. For every Death or At the Gates, there is 100 people who just grunt because they want to be death metal and that's what you do.

EDIT:

Check out the album Last One On Earth by Asphyx and tell me you could do the same. Especially the title track or The Krusher.

Exactly, it takes skill to actually sing well. It doesn't to death metal grunt.

How hard is it to do a death metal grunt when being in key doesn't even matter as long as you sound like you are barking. Which brings up another point, most of the live death metal I've listented too the grunting was always in the same exact pitch with no variation AT ALL. Again no skill.

I'd also like to add the fact that I've rarely been able to make out ANY of the lyrics of any death metal style "singing," I've heard. So, whats the point?

Like "real" singers don't have that problem. Ever listen to Exciter by Priest? How can you possibly tell what he's saying? The chorus of "The Evil That Men Do" by Maiden?

The difference here is instead of saying "wow, he's growling so low! He's awesome!" you're going "oooohh!! So high pitched! He's awesome!"

So why don't you take out the songs from your Ipod/mp3/pc and or c.d. players and don't listen to 'em.

Some times a cretein type of music calls for a cretein singing style.
