Is this Fender Precision a '75 or earlier?

Lacquer was still used on sunburst into the '70s.

Even then they were using poly as the undercoat not fullerplast or whatever they called it prior. So it was a thick poly undercoat with the nitro on top. From what I have seen that went into 72 and not a whole lot further. So I guess its possible but I still call them all poly finishes at that point based on the way they were doing them.

They were all 4-bolt -- only the Jazz Bass moved to the 3 bolt neck 1975-1981.

The pickguard doesn’t look like typical modern plastic either. Would it be celluloid?

sort of yes. Fender changed their original tort recipe around 65-66 to a darker more subdued color. Then again in 70-71 to a more subdued pattern. The final tort pattern they used before abandoning it was a more "digital" looking pattern used exclusively from 74-very early 75.

And the Telecaster Bass in mid '71

Mine was a 68, so 4 bolt. I have a 3bolt mid 70s Jazz and I know they did the guitars too -- the Tele and the Strat at least -- but for some reason the P stayed with 4 bolt.
