Is this Rickenbacker 4001 real?

+1. Yup it's not a copy. I'm not sure if it's a 4001S or 4003S but it's definately an "S" (no binding, dot inlays).

I used to work at the Ric factory in 78/79. That was before the 4003. I tend to think the bass shown is later 70's or early 80's 4001S because it doesn't have the 2-piece pickguard so the truss rod adjustment is probably up in the head (4001).

It's a 4003S, with black hardware. It's a real RIC not a copy.
