Is this too weird for an audience?

That's what we need, a Timothy Leary in our entourage to hand out magic potions that will make us sound better. Ha. Thanks for the listens/comments.

Lemur, I agree completely, but that seems to be the reaction to my solo music. :hmm: (see my ambient noise project in my signature for reference). The thing is, I tend to like "too weird" but I can't get too many in the area interested in that sort of mind set.

But the rest of the Milk Teeth band are really into electronica, and the guitarist and I have been jamming for years, completely directionless, but we fit each others styles perfectly: The only problem is, I'm going to have to have him come forward more often. Honestly, when I hear TBers complaining about guitarists who over play and dominate the mix, I think how strange it is that I have to coax my guitarist out of the shadows.

But we have a lot of fun jamming, but it's never guaranteed to be tight enough for an audience, that's where I'd like the electronica as an added interest/structure. I really hope this turns out as planned, because this is the first chance I've had to turn my musical interests into a live band.

Thanks again for the listens, they're greatly appreciated.

I think the most important thing when you're playing spacy music is for the bassline to be solid. If the bass sounds like it's wandering (I've been guilty of this) then the whole thing will sound unfocused.

Other than that, it's a matter of finding your audience, but if you sound like you're together and create a soundscape that people want to hear, most groups will get into it.

Nothing is too weird for an audience.
+1

I once tried this lineup for a different genre. The only problems I had were:
a/ Keeping other musicians in time with the samples ( I don't know why it was a problem)
b/ Stopping the Laptop guy from thinking that HE is the band. After all one guy with a laptop might be persuaded that he could play a gig himself with just samples! Egos huh?

Pursue this project with reckless abandon, for this is the way of Link Removed!!! ;)

Here's some more Milk Teeth artwork for ya:

The song "Wilford Brimley (in E minor)"

This is a very poor example of what I want to turn into a live act. The reason I refer to it as a poor example is because the drums/programming is not live. The bass and guitar are just a live jam.

My idea is sort of an electronica space rock/jam band. Where a so called structure is defined by someone on a laptop and maybe some general ideas from everyone. Having a live drummer will make this sound 100% better, but I have to ask: Is this song (as a very rough idea of what I want to attempt) too weird?

At some point, I stopped having the ability to distinguish weird from just a little weird. I know that sounds cheesy, but there have been times where I have attempted to be slightly mainstream (for lack of a better word) and the general reaction is that it is too weird.

So would a more polished, more dynamic version of this idea be something worth perusing as a live act?

Can't Milk Teeth Band and Bong Ripper do a European (or at least Scandinavian) tour? :D Aw, just come to Sweden and play a small gig just for me and my friends ;)

I heart the Bong Ripper, plus I've always wanted to check out Sweden (I'm of about 90% Swedish decent). So I'm going to go ahead and say, we'll probably need a ride to get there, but we are so down. ;)

Pbassred: Luckily, our laptop operator is completely without ego. She isn't really "a musician" per say, but is really into electronica/ambient/weird stuff, the guitarist and I will do the programming creating the actual loose structure, she will essentially fiddle with knobs and trigger different samples at different times. He role will be really simple, but infinitely important.

Jay, as always, I create in the name of the church of the fist, so more shalt trvly be fisted... or something. Mindblowingly awesome art work, by the way, I think I'll be photoshopping for the next few hours, kick ass.
