I wore sunglasses to my gig the other day mainly as a joke since I was subbing for a band and wanted to look as douchey as humanly possible. But I actually looked very badass. So are they actually douchey or is it just a few douchebags that use them?

Is Wearing Sunglasses On Stage Douchey?

I wear my sunglasses at night so I can, so I can watch you weave then breathe your storylines.

I always used to wear sunglasses on stage. People thought I was trying to look cool, but the truth is that my eyes are light sensitive and they hurt if I never.
Well, it's possible to look badass and douchey at the same time

Sunglasses make you look dumb and obnoxious. No exception to the rule.
Sunglasses on an afternoon beach gig would be ok. Otherwise not cool.
Maybe if you're high and don't want people to notice your wasted eyes you can wear them. It won't look cool anyway.

Outside in the sun it's perfectly fine, indoors at night it's just ... ridiculous.

If you are playing outdoors on a sunny day, there is nothing wrong with wearing sunglasses. If you are playing indoors or playing outdoors at night, there is no reason to wear them.
When you are cool, you don't need to ask. If you need to ask, you aren't.
No exception? Even when it's sunny outside. It's not as if they have a practical purpose or anything..
I have a form of dystonia and the sunglasses help disguise the seizure activity. Other than that, I'm a douchebag 24 /7.....IOW, I am the Waffle House of douchebaggery.

I wear them because I sing with my eyes closed and I think that makes me look silly. Also, with my sunglasses on, nobody can see me looking at my cheatsheets...
When you have a legitimate reason for them its fine (ie the sun is in your eyes) but otherwise they just make people look insecure imo

Sunglasses make other people uncomfortable, keeping them on while talking to someone makes you look suspicious or arrogant, it's like avoiding eye contact. Which probably is confused with acting cool when it's really just being a bit insensitive to social cues. But maybe this is what you want on stage, looking aloof and cut off from the rabble in the audience. 
Douchebaggery is in the eye of the beholder.
They can have a practical purpose but still make one look dumb and obnoxious
