always have been in original bands. Still like the challenge of hearing something in my head come out via playing with other people.

for me learning other peoples songs was always just something to keep myself entertained...usually to push my chops or to soak in the style and history of the genre. I could not see my self doing a cover band seriously though....it just does not feel right for me to claim fame off of someone else's work and struggle (though for most current pop stuff, I don't think there is much of either)

For small "one off" type things I don't mind...like if a friend or relative is having a celebration, and they want a small group to play 2 or 3 songs that have meaning, I am fine with that.....we sometimes joke around at gigs and will play "requests" as the night (and "focus level") wears on...

I feel quite lucky in that I'm 40 this year and still finding interesting original bands to do. I've got two on the go at the moment; one is a sort of hip-hop/electro/soul sort of thing, the other is a punk/dancehall/dub -based thing. Both provide lots of opportunities for a bass player to have fun. :)

Most of the people I played with when I was younger either started doing covers or stopped playing altogether, but luckily I keep meeting new people who are keen to get creative.

We play other bands our way. And we do all kinds of music. From punk, to R&B, to top 40 to full on thrash. Different bars, different sets.

We also do originals in the mix.

One of my favorite songs to throw out is The Angry Samoans - They Saved Hitler's Cock. We do it lounge style....priceless thrown into the mix of Misfits, S.O.D, and Ramones.

I am a a cover band player. Currently, I play in a cover band that does guitar-based rock songs from the 70's to current stuff. We have a good local following and we play out as much as we want to and make decent money. In some ways, I envy the originals guys.....they are more creative than I am. I really like what I'm doing and I have great bandmates who give 110% at every show. We do have some originals in the works but it's going slow because we are all primarily cover players. No regrets, though.

Always have been in original bands.
Rock/Punk/Grunge/Alternative
To succumb myself to play other peoples music in a cover band because i cant create it myself is disgusting to me.
Its kind of like ordering from kfc and putting it on plates then serving it to my family as my own cooking.
Someone else did all the work, i just take credit for it.

I play in two original bands; have been in five over the last 20 years. I've never had any desire to be in a cover band. I just don't think playing other people's songs would scratch my musical itch, and I enjoy writing and recording music every bit as much as performing live.

My day job funds my musical endeavors, so making a significant amount of money from playing has never been a consideration.
