Flawed poll. What if we do both?

I have three main bands. Ixion Lux is an original band, but we'll play a cover or two at the end of each gig for fun and energy. Devils Harvest is mostly a cover band, but we're playing an original gig this month. The Event Horizon Jazz Trio is 70% cover and 30% original, like many jazz groups. There's just too many good tunes out there to ignore in certain genres. I guess when I play in an orchestra I'm purely a covers guy.

We are a cover band, but the material is more obscure old blues and roots rock...all fun and danceable but not the typical bar band fare. People like us. We have a ball. I'm not a songwriter and I like to play.

Just wondering how many of us on here are in cover bands, as I read it almost seems like a bad thing to be a cover band...have any of you got that feeling? Also what type of music does your band play? we play mostly classic rock...from grand Funk to heart!

Cover + 2 CD's of originals.

Bad thing??? It is quite the opposite of being a bad thing. It's one of the best things that has ever happened to me.

We play whatever the crowd wants if 3 of 5 of us know it but it helps if it is a song from the 400+ we HAVE TO know. Generally: If it gets their toes tapping, dancing, and spending money at a venue then we'll do it.

In the last 15 years I've played in two bands, one is now defunct, and I'll be going out on the road with the other in a month or so. Both original, both punk, but both did the occasional cover as well. The band I'm still in seems to have a penchant for ripping country songs to punk, like Mama Tried by Merle Haggard and Suicide by David Allan Coe, but the covers don't stay in the set long.

But, this past Hallowe'en we did do a Sex Pistols cover set, played with a bunch of other bands also doing cover sets. As a one-off it was fun, but not really something that I think I'd enjoy doing regularly.
