As of this morning, the two guys who would have to come here to rehearse today were still willing, but I called it off because it was just announced that we are going to be under formal shelter-in-place orders as of midnight tonight, with force of law. Even though it didn't start yet, I figured it's probably not worth the little risk for a last hurrah if we don't know when we might be back to normal. So no more rehearsals for a while.
I tend to think that the once in a lifetime event of a STATE, NATIONAL, and GLOBAL emergency would be enough to make people think twice about rolling the dice and going ahead with any gigs, rehearsals, etc... , but people are short-sighted. I see the spring breakers on the beach in Florida, and just shake my head. I've already heard from a few people who are getting sick. It not "coming", it's here (probably been here for weeks already, it's invisible and it kills. I had to guilt my dad into taking it seriously by reminding him that while he (may) live an infection, my mother with MS most certainly will not.
I work as a residential AV service Tech. I have clients who still think it's worth it for me to come to their homes to fix AV issues. I think they are nuts, especially the older ones. I will take some vacation time, watch youtube, and play video games.

It is somewhat amazing how quickly the equation has changed as the seriousness of the situation and possible ramifications to others hit home. I went from maybe it would be a good idea to suspend to be on the safe side, to of course not! I've basically quarantined myself except for fresh air and exercise outdoors and the occasional grocery run when I have to. I'm pretty proud of the people here who are doing their part. I hope it will be worth it if we knock this thing out before it can really get a foothold, or at least minimize the number of cases.
The state of California is just now on a stay-at-home order. Pretty much no rehearsals, no gigs for anyone.
I am curious how well Facebook Live would work for a rehearsal. Might be worth trying. Some of my bandmates (*cough* *cough* *throatclear* *throatclear*) are a little technophobic, though.

Zoom might be an option for rehearsals. Surprisingly low latency, works from landline phones to smartphones to iPads to desktop computers. Anybody here given it a shot yet? Did it work out?
I have used Zoom twice for lessons/rehearsals and so far I *hate* it. Way too much latency and you can't all play at once. It seems to me Zoom is designed for meetings where one person is supposed to talk at a time. It is not designed for four or five musicians in different locations to play and hear each other at the same time.
I have no idea how it would work. I'm the least internet/Facebook savvy guy in the band. Our singer is the one with the idea, he's going to prop his iPhone up on a stand and let it rip rip on his FB page. We've got a stage in our room, PA, lights and the whole nine yards...... might be fun.
I'm changing my answer from a week ago. We're going to hold off for now. Frustrating, because we're at a point where we're adding songs and sounding tighter every time we get together. But the risk/reward has changed over the past week as the virus has spread.
Positive thought for the day: Think about how awesome and fun that first rehearsal is gonna be when things finally return to normal!
I am curious about JamKazam as well.
I looked at JamLink recently also but in the latter case it's not clear when they last revised the hardware and it doesn't seem to be in widespread use, which makes me uneasy.
All three of my bands had rehearsals scheduled for this week, but we cancelled all three, just as a precaution. And now the governor of the neighboring state, where the drummer in one band lives, has issued a "stay-at-home" order for the state, so he won't be able to rehearse for at least 15 days. All of the bars and restaurants are closed here, anyway, so there are no gigs, or even potential gigs, so rehearsals aren't actually needed right now, anyway.
Damn it, I *need* to rehearse and perform! I love my family but I am not used to being around them 24/7 and that will get old after a while. Rehearsing and gigging enhance my mental health and without those outlets I may seriously "go cuckoo," as my mother-in-law so charmingly puts it.
