Something makes me want to say there was an SVT head that was completely solid state, and not tube. Can someone correct me if I'm wrong?

Solid state can be for your power amp section, your pre-amp section, or both.

Most Ampegs are fully tubes. Like the SVT. But they had a Solid SVT meant to sound just like the tube. They also have had a few hybrids, if I remember correctly.

Yep....many years ago I traveled with an "SVT-350H" that acted as a backup. Looked like a regular tube head, but was solid state....not really a bad head, but not terribly great, either...

all the pro 3,4,6,8 have tube pre. ss power.
the 2 pro is all tube.

and with the SVT-200(and up to the 450H) it looks like the 'real' SVT but it doesnt have a standby, so thats how ya tell if ya cant get up close.

I really hate how they've deluted the SVT name by attaching it to everything that comes out the door.

The reason I ask is that I love Ampeg tone, but I hate tubes.

Get a 3 or 4 pro.

I just got rid of an SVT-IIP preamp that still had the 18 year old factory tubes in them.
Still sounded good, but sounded better after I put some Sovteks in.

Don't get me wrong, I think tubes in Ampegs sound amazing. It's just too much TLC for me to handle. It's not worth it to me.
