The Ampeg IsoVent above has its two 15s clamped face-to-face with just the baffle sandwiched between them. It came out around 1992 during Ampeg's SLM era. At the same time Ampeg also offered the SVR-215 (which I bought in '92) with two 15s back-to-back in a sealed enclosure (there was also an SVR-212 doing the same thing with 12s), the theory being that they'd oppose each other's motion and reduce the possibility of excursion distortion. There was also a crossover directing the higher lows to the front 15 and the low lows to the rear; it was stated that the lowest frequencies were omnidirectional and not cause phase issues with the front. Of course, having a rear-firing speaker also means you can't put it up against the wall. The SVR-215 (and SVR-212) had rackmount sections built in on the top making a convenient place to put the SVT-III I bought with it. They also offered the same cabs without the rackmount section, but I forget the model name; might have been DD-215 and -212 or something like that. If I can find where I stashed the catalog I can look it up, if anyone is burning to know.
