Isolated bass: John Paul Jones, part 2

Was it ever verified what the modulation was? It doesn’t sound like straight tremolo or a Leslie to me, plus there’s a bit of overdrive going on. Since Page would use a Vox AC-30 in the studio, and those feature a vibrato circuit(which is a pitch variant, as oppposed to tremolo, an amplitude variation), I wonder if Jones was going through one of those, as I hear a frequency warble.

I believe it's due to an oscillating Leslie speaker.
