Issues with an Earth Super Bass 440 module

Hey folks, long story short my bamdmates and I found this in a dumpster at the studio we practice at. From what I have read it's essentially a lawsuit amp made by Earth that more or less copied the Peavey 400 series bass amp, which I ironically currently own and use.

The problem is that we plugged it in the amp turns on the fuse seems to be fine but just got hum and feedback out of the speakers. This is a solid state 220W 2ohm amp, I am just wondering if anyone might have an idea of what the issue is? And if it is worth repairing, I basically got it for free so I wouldn't mind dishing out $100 or something like that to get it working again.

If it was JUST hum, then that would most likely be the power supply filter caps that need replacing. If you're also getting feedback (how? bass plugged in or not?) then there could be other more complex problems with the amplifier.

We can only guess. Bring it to a repair shop for a look over and find out what is really wrong, if the estimated cost is worth it to you get the repair done.

probably not worth the bench fees to have this looked at. I would just find a different amp.

Often with stuff found in a dumpster there is a very good reason for it to be there. This is likely one of those cases.

The only realistic (= cost effective) way to fix a dumped amp is to do it yourself. If you're an electronics man (like me) you could have a go. You'd need the circuit diagram / service sheet + some years of experience at fixing this sort of thing. You'all also need all the kit that an electronics man knows he needs and a good deal of time to spare.

If you can find a place to give you a quote on the repair, then that might be worth a shot. You might be lucky and get a good amp out of it for next to nothing. And there's no harm in trying. But don't hold your breath!

From the previous posts, it appears that they did clone the PV400.
If that is the case then schematics, parts and general knowlege should be
easy enough to find.
I would start with P/S filter caps to see if that fixes the hum.
It is certainly old enough to need them.
If you can change them yourself, you might be OK.
If that isn't the cure, you will only be out a minimal investment.
