all pretty funny and scary at the same time. I have worked with a couple of very talented songwriters over the past 4 or 5 years and they have both done pretty well with their original music. One of them decided to give Suno a try recently, just to check out the tech, and check out the latest "competition" too.
He got pretty good at the prompt/script process and eventually fed the app some medical guidance on dealing with constipation and directed it to produce a James Brown style funk tune with that lyric content. It created an absolutely hilarious song .... and yet it was also pretty disturbing for me to listen to it as a musician who works on originals projects. I'm sure glad I'm no longer needing to make a living in music, it would be really frustrating to have to compete with all this AI stuff.
One interesting thing I was told about the AI created music material is that it can't be copywrited, so no one can own it. Another thing I was told is that for those looking to do sync licensing work for movies and tv, other than the short little audio blurbs/snippets that happen in those kinds of productions, producers will not accept AI content (at least for the moment).

Lately I feel like I'm getting overwhelmed by the apparent inevitability of it all. Nobody really thinks this (or a lot of other directions AI is going right now) is a good thing, a lot of people find it scary, but it is coming anyway. While we still discuss if we should really have AI do music, driving, education, health care and so on, somebody has already done it and is making money with it.
About the copyright thing... maybe purely AI generated music cannot be copyrighted, but I already see the loophole of "ghostwriting" a song per AI. It generates a song, you transcribe it (optional?), re-record it, slap your name on it, done. No one ever needs to know AI was involved in any way. Or is that too simple in my thinking?
What I find disconcerting is how eagerly embraced it is in general by many, apparently without any thought as to the negative consequences. As long as a few make a buck, you know. But that’s the history of humans anyway, isn’t it?
SUNO is frighteningly good at spitting out the exact kind of stuff that's been dominating the radio for the past 25 years...this will (thankfully) mean the end of guys like Max Martin/Jack Antonoff/Shellback/etc.

The only real solution is to spend more time listening to live music, and less to recorded.
Well, I've written this several times already:
My prediction is that pretty soon, the Gammas, Deltas, and Epsilons will have their troublesome personal thoughts continuously overwritten by a constant strream of AI-generated "pasteurized music product"; Betas will have something similar but their AI-generated pasteurized music product will be a little better grade; and the Alphas will be taking real musical instruments out into the woods and having bluegrass and jazz jam sessions. The bifurcation of society will continue.

Even though most shareholders can be incredibly short-sighted and impatient, some of these companies or industries are playing the long game. They've been doing this for a while and it's coming to a head with the gaming industry. They boil the frog, but their ace in the hole is hatching tadpoles in the same pot. When they grow up around these things, they often times see nothing wrong with it and don't feel it's out of place. All the malicious tactics in the gaming industry seem normal to kids because they've been inundated with is since they started. Now we have companies who actually get by with selling you something at full-price that you do not own and cannot use anymore if they deem it so.
Music is already a passive-listening experience only for most kids. Something that just runs in the background while they do something else. I really go out of my way to encourage any kids I run across who want to learn an instrument, are exploring older music, and have aspirations to write and perform. Sad though...I can remember when folks my age were fighting tooth and nail to try and "Make it" with music or whatever we created...now most kids want to be some schlock huckstering a mobile phone game or shoddy VPN service on TikTok or Youtube

agreed. I like "real" country, hard country and old school southern rock. But this "bro country" thang just strikes me as meh.

When I want to annoy my son, one of the many things I might do is start singing “I got a beer in my beer and a Chevy in my truck”
And that rhythm's got some funk in it, too. There's so much to like there!
Well, sadly, pretty much everyone who is creating AI music/art/etc. does think it's a good thing. Because now, they don't need to be good at making music or art, just good at manipulating software. And most of them don't understand, don't get the big deal about why so many people are unhappy about this.
This will all likely become natural in time...just the way it is, and every argument against it will be compared with old people yelling at clouds. Oh well, I'll keep on making and listening to original music anyways.
