It is clear that something is horribly wrong with me.

This isn't normal GAS. GAS doesn't mystify me, it's easily explainable.

This is wanting something that there's no way I "should" want.

GAS is me wanting this 66 LPB Precision.

Wanting a Ergodyne is inexplicable.

ergo's are kinda interesting ... looked at them from time to time over the years .. !? checking out something slightly different isn't a bad thing ...

our GAS is really safer/cheaper than many other ' not so good habits ' .. !! ?? x-wives , sports cars , houses , boats , etc ... cost much much more .. ! ( i had the car bug so bad, i didn't keep a car long enough to make the first oil change for a couple decades .. !! )

my GAS has been slowed a lot by building parts basses .. ! now i buy parts/tools to work on them .. ! then i get more attached and don't wanna sell them . ! pedal swapping is pretty fun also ,.. but the only folks making any money is the USPS .

Nothing is wrong. During season changes usually from cold months to warmer months when people get to get out into the warm/cool outdoors, and the weather is nice. People feel gay happy and joyful. Thus, it's not uncommon for the masses to have buying desires. Think of when most manufacturers put out new stuff. It's usually in Spring or just before the shopping holidays.

Thus, if you want it, and can afford it, go for it. This helps not only you, but others who make and sell basses.

I have an Ergodyne 4 string (one of the super weird looking ones). My g/f picked it up at a swap meet.

It certainly has a different sound than any other bass I have played and is light as a feather with a super-skinny neck but...

I can see shimming the neck is probably coming and since they are made of fancy particle board or something, I don't think you can do much work on them like you can on a regular wooden bass. I could be wrong.

So... proceed with caution.

As everyone knows, a new bass will instantly clean up all your bad technique, cleanse trite cliches from your playing, improve your timing, impart troves of music theory knowledge to your memory banks and leave you awash in a tsunami of creative inspiration.

Well...at least...the RIGHT new bass will do that.

Be patient. Keep looking. You'll eventually find "the one".

Have faith.

And plenty of cash...

I have an EDB400 which is a heavy MFer... so not all are light. The EDAs are light (i have the 4 and 5 string versions of that). The biggest horror story I've heard about the luthite body is someone dropping one that was still cold from being outside for a long period... it shattered. I do find the necks on the EDAs to be a bit thin and prone to bowing a bit so check the truss rod.

Been there, done that! Drum GAS is real! Hint: 18" tom as kick drum works much better than 16". Line it with foam use hydraulic head on it!
