It Is Finished........

I'm thinkin a change of scene. Maybe find a blues band with a big ol horn section, or maybe even a country band.

We'll see what happens this weekend. I'm kinda hiding over here on TB and avoiding FB today so I don't have to talk to people.

So what you're saying is....

I need to copy down your schedule so I can take the gigs when things implode.

Yeah, pretty much.:D. I dunno, maybe it'll work out, but I'm just sick to death of dealing with it. On the scale of things that are important in my life, yard work has moved up a few notches.

Let me know about the rumors I'm sure are spreading. Would ya?

That's a tragic event for a bassist. Seriously. I've been playing with the same drummer for over 18 years. If your're not a bassist,it's really kinda hard to comprehend.
It'll feel pretty weird for a while. Kinda like wearing another person's underwear:eek:....

I'm not a bassist, but I can imagine. That's what gets me the most about this story.

Phalex, sorry to hear it, man. I didn't know about the troubles in the band. Even though everything changes eventually, it's gotta be tough going through this after 9 years. Hoping it turns out to be a blessing in disguise.

So what were your singer's/guitarist's beliefs that brought things to a head? Why has this been going on for years? Why stay around that long when there's on going, unresolved drama based on what? A power grab? Seems you and the drummer should have jumped ship years ago.

It’s not unusual to have some tension between members, then have it escalate to the point of… what happened

Shame they couldn’t have held out until after the holidays. Seems the drummer has more class then the rest of the band.

While I've never done the horn section and country is where I've spent most of my time, finding refuge in a simple blues thing is something I've done more than once and it's always cathartic.

What was so good about it for me was the decided lack of worry over the music. Not a lot of up front prep required, just a set list for everyone, a couple of get togethers to hammer out any rough spots, then it's pretty much show up and run it. I've even been on a call list for an old blues slinger who never had an actual band. When he got a booking he would ring up players until he got enough to do the job and we'd show up and go. Gives one plenty of time to contemplate yard work without shutting the door completely on music.

I know anything today is cold comfort if it's comfort at all and I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir when I say this, but don't let the bummer win.

I'm taking a wait and see attitude at the moment. I'm not happy about the situation, but the drama is either going to go away completely and my band life will no longer be stressful, or without the drummer to reign things in when they get out of hand the drama will increase to the point of being untenable.

The money is damn good, so I have to balance that with the negative stuff.

I'm extremely resilient in these sorts of situations, so we'll see what happens and go from there. Halloween party this Saturday.......... There are going to be lots of people, and I intend to get feedback.

This is Phalex we're talking about here... I imagine he does this on a daily basis :D

On another note, I recently left my band of 7 1/2 years due to my own role in some drama issues... The resulting stress-relief is intoxicating!

I'm hoping the result here is the same. Then again, it could get worse.......

Why not become a stunt penis for Ron Jeremy?

=)

Mostly because I'm hung like a doorstop........

This is about what I'd be thinking.

You seem to have little interest in going on with the band as the singer takes control, why waste time delaying the inevitable?

Yeah, get out now. Take your drummer and find some new guys....or just take a break and reform something with your drummer later.

I played at church when I was between bands, still do. It's alright.

Trust me - no band in the world has anywhere close to the level of drama that exists in most swingers groups. Or so I've heard, anyway.

I should get serious since this thread is about Phalex and his band that he has put in allot of his time and life into that could be going down the drain..that aint cool. Maybe a gig like country or blues? I was in a country band for 2 years laid back and fun..loved it! The travel made me quit thou. I don't know why people in a band can't get along with each other.

And your right if people can't seam to get together to play music with each other without drama, there really has to be allot of drama where people get together to play with each other

UPDATE!!!!

I'm finishing out my run with this band this weekend! Found a replacement, got him up to speed, and I'll be handing things over to him effective this Saturday night.

Not sure how I feel exactly, but I'm looking forward to getting some sleep!

Good luck with new things. As they say, sometimes you don't know what you've got until it's gone. After you step away you may realize you left what had become a flaming turd that was about to explode. It will do you good to take a break and relax. Maybe you and the drummer can start some new, better and with less drama.

I just bumped into this thread and noticed it was a few months old, but the first thing I thought was, "Why would anyone stay in that?" I'm glad to see you finally bailed. I always see those kinds of endings as new beginnings. Country bands are fun, as long as there are venues for them.

In my current band, we found out our 40-year-old singer is pregnant. We've got an ad in CL for that. Now we find out that our backup singer got a part in a play in L.A., so she'll be scarce. I'm fine with all of it, because it means we can get better singers (after auditioning a long chain of American Idol wannabes).
