It Is Finished........

Ryan's cool. I think Scott has calmed down a little now that K-dawg is out and Danny is in.

So, Friday is my farewell swansong, and the new guy takes over Saturday night. (I'm still planning on being there to critique........)

I'm not even officially retired yet, and I'm getting offers. My church has boosted me in their rotation, which is a good thing, but I'm not so sure if I should go out and actually join another bar band at this juncture.

Then again, if I don't strike while the iron is hot so to speak, will I become irrelevant by June?

Nawww..take your time I'm pretty sure your rep will precede you.

I just hope that time doesn't increase the clarity of peoples recollections..........

One offer I didn't care for. Never heard of any of the guys, and the vibe I got wasn't great.

The other offer is really quite tempting. Great band, but they play a lot.....

Go with your gut, my man. As far as the "strike while iron is hot" question, you could ask for a "long trial" format, and see if you really enjoy playing with a group, say a 6-month period. Then, have an official re-evaluation with the other members and decide together if you'd like to stay or go.

my 2¢

Your singer is a dork. He's doing enough damage to the world with his ego, and now he's desecrating humanity by having more than one of his spawn? Damn!

That's what's great about being a bass player, among other things. Plenty of options. I don't think we ever become irrelevant, do we?

Back in 2003, I was playing with a band that was booked every weekend, 2 nights, and after 16 months, I was exhausted! It came to a head in July, where we took the stage to start the night in a bar that I had played many times with another band, and before the first note, I remember thinking, "Are we done yet?". That was the signal that it was time to stop. I gave notice that night at the end of the night, that my last gig would be Labor Day weekend. I took that whole Fall and Winter off, stayed home and read, watched TV watched movies, played on my computer, and slept. I missed the money, but i loved having more free time. the following Spring, I was starting to get a little itch to play, when an old friend called me out of the blue,. and wanted to know if I wanted to get together with him and his bandmates and jam. I said "Sure, why not? It'll be fun!" At the jam, we played two songs, and the drummer set his sticks on the snare, and said, "That's it, you're in!" I had walked into an audition, not even knowing it. When I found out they only play once a month or 6 weeks, I agreed to join. They didn't know that I had always secretly wanted to be in their band....I used to see them back in the early 80's, when a couple of friends of mine ( one a former bandmate) played with them, and I dreamed of being in a band that good.

I've been with them since 2004, and still love the fact that I'm playing with them. I've lasted longer than any of their other bass players, except their original one, and I've been with this band longer than any band I've ever been with. The best part is they came looking for me!
