Hi, this is a long story but hope you will read, I just have to get this off my chest, vent whatever.

I feel like I'm going nutz with this band I'm in. We are quite well known in my part of the world so Im posting this here under a new name to prevent repecussions.

So ive been playing in this coverband on the side for a number of years now, its kinda quite ordinary but most of the time it pays a few bills, i get to improve my chops and meet a few chicks threw it, you know the kind of thing. Its standard rock and pop.

One of the guys in the band is a bit of a character shall I say, he gets us the gigs, his playing is OK. Ive asked him what he does for a living and he just says im a businessman. theres always odd people talking to him after gigs, folks that i dont really like the look of.

anyway at the last few gigs theres been a few of these people about and theyve been starting trouble, with stuff being said while we were on stage. Then last night there was a HUGE fight broke out, chairs being thrown about and tables knocked over, one of the guitarists friends was kicked in the gut and just went down like a brick. I could not beleive it. This is right in front of the stage right in front of me.

Then the guitarist took off his guitar and just swung this thing at the kicking guy, hitting him right in the face. It makes me feel sick thinking about it, the guys face was just blood all over, staggered about a bit then HE went down too. I have never got off a stage quicker. I back off, getting right away from it all, not even time to unplug, i just went.

Then just all hell broke loose, and some people got up on the stage and tryed to take my spare bass and stuff. I tryed to stop them, but I'm not a fighter and some of these guys were pretty mean looking.

The next thing I know is the police have arrived and have arrested many of the people and me as well. I try to explain Im just trying to protect my gear and just get my arm twisted behind me and handcuffs on. Now I'm on a charge of causing a disturbance and damage to property! Kept me in a cell until 4 am! Fortunately my gear was all still at the club when I went back the next day.

It seems the guitar player is involved in some kind of stolen cigarettes thing.

Anyway I think I'll stick with my other band from now on.

One word: run. Two more: Far away... from this band, this guy, anything to do with it. If it's been escalating or the last few gigs, it's gotten to the point where the problems following him are not going away any time soon. Every gig there will be something you will be in the middle of it.

Wow! Can you at least tell us if what country you're in? How about what state?

Thanks guys. I had to go back to the police station to sign some stuff and there attitude had changed from i was one who was causing trouble to believing me that i was just there not doing anything bad.

the police inspector i spoke to said to "play the guitar with someone else" and that my 'friend', who may or may not be charged is not the worst of them some of those guys have been inside for GBH and other things. Obviously theres a lot they can say, but he didnt seem unhappy (he seemed to be stopping himself laughing) that guy got hit with the guitar apparently he has a broken cheekbone and no front teeth anymore.

so anyway on that police advice I'll stay away from the guy, but he was always OK with me etc. He has some gear of mine just and old guitar so I might have lost that, oh well.

Crap, as in HOLY... That's nuts. Forget "your lucky none of your gear was stolen", you're lucky you weren't hurt. Wow. (Of course it's a good thing you didn't get gear stolen either.)

Yea, definitely, stay away. any way you can salvage it with the other band members to get something else going? I can't imagine the rest of the band wanting to stay with the guy after all that...

intense. Not going to lie I wish I could have seen the dude get smacked upside the head with the guitar, as for all this starting over some smokes... that doesn't sound right but who really cares at this point.

for future reference learn to fight. You never wanna get stuck in a situation like this again without having a snowballs chance.

Woah. That's pretty crazy and the gear being stolen is minute compared to what could've happened.

I wouldn't want to eat the loss on the other gear of mine he has so I would at least make one attempt (more than likely in vain) to try and get it back. He's a douche though and probably hocked or sold it. If not, I'd be willing to bet he'll come up with some bull crap excuse as to why you can't get your belongings back.

Time to sit down, crack a cold one, put your feet up and slip in 'Roadhouse' on the old video displaying device. Worth it just to see Jeff Healy play. And note to bassplaying self....never swing your bass in defence of your stage....always use the butt end directly to the face of any onrushing idiot. That way you won't tweak the neck too bad, and with any luck you'll still be in tune for the next set.

Its time to get all your gear back from the "businessman" and find a new band... or just replace him and choose a new band name so his followers wont come after you guys. The businessman hitting the guy with the guitar reminded me of the season finale of metalocalypse season 2 when squisgar fends of the attackers using his guitar and holds it up looks at the neck and says the neck is still straight...
