I see why they get the love. And I admit I never had a chance to play with them in a band setting. But nonetheless, I could never get a living room tone I liked.

They’re pretty great driving a tube amp for guitar. Might suck some low end on bass, but worth a go.

The Freeze has a big brov, the Superego, and there's even a fat Superego called SuperegoPlus, both have an auto sample function as well as what Freeze does and a send return for putting other effects in the frozen/sustained/sampled whatever tone. i would trade an EQD Tentacle (just a clone of an old homemade pedal, the dan armstrong Orange Squeeze) for an Aftershock because even though Aftershock "does so much" none of it sounds as good to me as the simplest analog circuit. I Love the new SA synth, btw. I have kept a lot of pedals that have been replaced on my boards (2) but they are all mostly great, just a little imperfect vs what I use now.

I know the Plus pedal. It's quite big and I am not sure if it sounds any better than freeze, although it seems to have more features.
And superego is ehx as well...

I research things pretty carefully and I’m not driven by current fads when it comes to music gear. But the only way to really know how well something is going to work for you in actual practice is to get one, plug it into your own rig, and have at it for several weeks. Which in my case means I keep maybe a third of what I buy. So with ne it’s probably better if I give three categories instead of three pedals so I don’t unfairly single out the many otherwise cool pedals that just didn’t do it for me.

1. Everything by Darkglass. Their stuff sounds incredible when played by many fine bassists I’ve listened to. Much less so with me. Guess they’re just not my sound.

2. Envelope filters. Like the concept behind the effect. I’m a closet funkmeister. But I could never get them to work for me.

3. Bass Synth pedals. Never once tried one I’d consider putting on a board. Never once heard one do anything a small keyboard synth couldn’t do ten times better.

Darkglass preamps. They sound amazing in genres of music I don't and probably never will play.

Yeah - same here. If I turned one of those on at a gig, I'd get someone talking in my ears, asking me what happened to my sound. Then again, over 90 percent of overdrive pedals fit into that category for me, but I still persist in finding that one that produces the sound in my head. A few times I've heard pedal demos, where I'd think "that's it! - that's the tone!, but alas, then they'd turn the pedal on, and it'd be all bees and fizz.

The contrast between the two previous posts is a beautiful illustration that one person’s meat is another’s poison.
For me it’s dirt pedals, pretty much every one I’ve tried.

Me too, I guess I'm too old for them.
It's probably because I used an Ampeg B15n when I started as a kid and It was woefully underpowered (35 watts) playing Cream covers against half stacks or Fender Twins.

So the distortion I was getting, I ran from and never looked back.

But that's just me and, I get that

The Accountant compressor from Fairfield. I loved how it sounded in other people's rigs but for some reason I could never get it to sound right with my setup. Loved the idea of a gritty compressor but it just felt thin and limiting instead of punchy.

I love filters and modulation and cab sims and all that when messing around on ambient stuff or at home, but I've never been able to put them to use playing with other people.
Sometimes the Wah or a delay comes with me, but not often.

Distortion tho... There is a lot more I can do with an OD going into some distortion then into a preamp for dirt, just distortion for a milder tone and then a boost to make the fretless sing a bit. Lots of tonal options between all of that stuff, but those are what I find I make the most use out of. I'm not a fuzz sort of girl but sometimes if I'm doing heavy psych or doom stuff one goes on the board. Not often and I find stacked drives to be much more effective and controllable in different situations.

That said, I love Darkglass stuff, ha.

I only have two, really.

• Fuzz : I never got them to work for me. I was mostly after synthy fuzz sounds, and tried a few (Zvex Mastotron, 3Leaf You're Doom). They sound great when played solo, but it never sounds good with the band.
• Chorus : Similar to fuzz - sounds great on its own, sounds muddy with the band (at least, to me). It's a shame, because the Tech21 bass chorus I have has really nice features, but it still doesn't sound right.

Darkglass b7k. Great sounding pedal that for many people can be a desert island pedal that even replaces their amp. But it was just too subtle for me. I use the microtubes X these days. Much more extreme and way more obvious when it’s turned on especially in a mix

Pretty much all of them, except for my Smoothie.

They come and they go. But they have all gone except the Smoothie.

Darkglass, loopers, chorus, wah, octaves, and lots of other compressors. All gone.

I’m using an HD500x now for everything, plus the smoothie. The amp models are sweet, and the fx will do. Tons of stuff to play with.

I also cling to my MXR M-80, but I haven’t used it in months. It’s just too solid of a pre, eq and di to let it go.

Every now and again I’ll get the itch, do the pre buy foreplay, scout the classifieds and buy something. A few months or a year later, it’s up for sale. Rinse and repeat.

Bass Octave Deluxe by MXR. It tracks well, it sounds like an octave, it’s got some variety of tones. I have one on my board. Lots of people like them and I see why.

It maybe gets ten seconds of play every other gig, tops.
