It's hard getting older and losing your hair.... ;)

I guess when's it's time, it's time….
I've never understood doing that when it's not all gone yet.
I started losing my hair in high school. By age 18, I had a noticeable bald spot.
My closest friend constantly mocked me for being bald. He had a lion's mane of hair.
About 5 years ago, when we were both in our mid 50s, his hair suddenly fell out and he had the classic giant bald patch on top.
I mentioned it to him once in passing and he got really defensive and angry about it.

I have a full head of hair but it started going grey in my 30's and now I'm Snow White. Used to bother me that it was so white in my 40's and 50's but at this point I'm just happy it's sticking around.

I started getting bald when I was 19. It is now "Zoom hair." I don't look bald from the front, but I sure have a big, round shiny spot right behind that front fringe. It is going gray now. It isn't all gray yet, and I am well into my 60s. But really, who cares? My wife is OK with it, and not much else matters.

In his 80s, my father still had a full head of hair. At 58, mine is receding slightly, but mostly there.
I had short hair when I was younger, then grew it out in my mid 30s. Then by my late 40s (I just turned 53) I started having a thinning patch and it got limp and stringy overall, not full, so I decided to cut it short again. People who've only known me in the last few years are always shocked to see my older pictures.

Mine did the classic recede and fall out until I was pretty much bald at 50. I don't mind it al all, really.
25 years of swimming and judo (and a lengthy interest in punk rock) rendered hair a burden. It's only in the last year or two, that I've grown hair to help prevent skin cancer... an unfortunate side effect of renal transplant drugs and good ole Aussie Sun.
I've been blessed twice. The fact that at 64 it's still there and that it continues to hide my oddly shaped skull.
I have a buddy who's got some pattern baldness: he goes out to the shed every couple weeks, runs the clipper with the #2 depth stop over the whole noggin, checks in the mirror that he didn't miss anything, sweeps the clippings out into the yard, and he's DONE.

A good friend of mine started graying in his 20s. By 30 he was solid silver and by 50 he was white haired. Still has a full head of hair. His older brother started going bald in his late 20s. Now he's 65 and has no hair on top, but no gray hair at all. Meanwhile my friend has all of his hair but a full head.
Funny how genetics works sometimes. Totally different gene expression in two full siblings.
I started turning gray in my late twenties. At some point it turned silver, then white. I have a bald spot but I still leave my hair on, no head shaving. I don't think I could get used to that.

To answer the direct question : Yes , it's hard getting older. It definitely ain't for sissys and if the alternative didn't really suck , I would not recommend it. Going bald is really quite easy and requires little to no effort. 
well, if it all fell out first, you'd never get the opportunity to cut it all off! 
that's where mine seems to be --- always had fine hair, but thick. now it's thinning and wimpy. although my beard seems to be working (avatar). after the holidays i'll deal with the beard, but i'm afraid to cut my hair too short = don't wanna see the curvature of my skull in the mirror....
so i may follow @Michedelic's thinking!

It doesn't look like it was that hard- you just shaved it off... I guess it would have been more difficult and taken more time if you'd have used a scissors...
I had pretty much the same hair I had in my 20s up until after I turned 38 and I started getting the salt and pepper gray. While I've always pretty much kept the same military style haircut since I was in the Army- around 10 years ago I started keeping a much fresher haircut because the gray didn't seem to show as much if it was short, but now it's just gray and I'm going with it- and in the past few years my hairline has started receding... Along with getting fat.

Zoom hair. I like it.
I have a Zoom shirt that's cut up the back so I can roll right out of bed and slip it on like a hospital gown. It lost a button so instead of sewing on another one I sliced the back open.
This is my daughter and me on Thanksgiving. I'm 73 and my hair has never gone gray (at least yet). My mom was 87 when she died and hers wasn't gray either. Yes, my whiskers are gray, but not my hair. Of course my forehead is now the size of Rhode Island...
I used to have long hair since I was 12, it was big and curly and looked awesome. It started thinning when I was 30 or something and 5 years ago I just shaved it all off. It's hard, I miss it. I looked so good with long hair, and bald headbanging just doesn't cut it. My brother in law got a hair transplant, but I think I'm too proud to be vain.
