It's new, really?

Stopped by the local Sam Ash and tried out a Classic Vibe Precision. It played very nice but I couldn't find a price tag. Ask a sales guy, first he tells me $650. My response was of course, "for a Squier?" While he was going back to check again I start checking it out, it's had the plastic covering on the pickguard pulled off, with several pieces still surrounding screws and the output jack, the pickguard has many pick scratches, there's a small chip on the back, and the strings have obviously been changed(red wraps, not plain metal like the other Squiers). The salesman comes back and tells me $350, the new price for a Classic Vibe. When I point out that it's used and how I can tell he insists it's new. Think I'll avoid that Sam Ash for a while.

It’s not used, it’s shopworn. Used is when it was previously owned by an individual.
You can try to get a discount for being shopworn, but unless it’s been hanging on the wall for a few months, they probably won’t.

I doubt the salesman is going to keep track of all the specs of a stock squier bass. If it's like my local Sam Ash (and almost every other music store), the bass section is an afterthought and 95% of the salesmen's knowledge is based on the guitars. Don't see it as a reason to avoid that Sam Ash.
