Yeah, because it's just a drink. I'm sure there are those who wouldn't. But it takes more than that to offend me personally.

Im devoid of religion and politics so stuff like that isn't going rile me up. So maybe I'm not the best one to ask.

Plus car bombs or bombs in general have affected people from many different walks of life in many different countries. Sticking Irish or anything else in front of it isn't going to make much a difference.

I just remember working in a touristy pub down south, seeing an Irish guy go nuts when a fellow drinker ordered a Black and Tan. To be fair, I suspect the emotional damage was already there before the drink was ordered.

Edit: Just thinking about it. No one here in Ireland is going to ask for an "Irish" car bomb. It would just end up being called a car bomb. Which would make finding offence in the name more difficult

I think I've seen them called 'Depth Charges' over here (maybe that's a similar drink)... might be offensive to submariners, I agree.

Well the black and tans weren't exactly nice people. At the same time I know a guy who drinks black and tans fairly regularly. (It's a pint of smithwicks with some guinness in it I think) No one passes any heed.

yep yep yep - full day at work, home, had dinner, fit for for bed but I know Ill wake up wide awake in the middle of the night if I go to bed now and be as tired timorrow as a consequence!!

To divert away from the "people get offended over drinks names" bit for a second (I might add I love sex on the beach), let me fill you in on my drunken silliness that was St Patricks Day for me here in lil Dublin. I got up early. Went our for breakfast. fine. Drove back, ad decided to bus it into town where there was street perfoemers, open theatre, and of course, the parade. (yes, we did have celebrations on St. Patricks Day!!). Hussling my way through the crowd to find a spot to watch the parade, I bumped into a mate of mine outside a pub - there's a statue of Phil Lynnott there and we joked about the story of an American who supposedly wanted her pic taken with the statue of Michael Jackson. Anyhow, we decided to have a pint as the other guys were coming in to watch the fun and frollicks in town. This was at about 1pm. Fast forward to Burger King at 6pm. Somehow the nice person behind the counter understood what I had ordered.

On the way back to catch the bus home, I needed to use the loo, as copious amounts of alcohol tends to affect you that way. The lads were still there, and it got oh so very hazy after that.

Sorry for a lack of details story but my head hurts. And I believe there's a pic of me somewhere hugging Phil Lynott's leg as I tripped over on teh way out for a smoke at some stage. Depending on how bad it looks, I might give you gives first look at it! lol

Incidentially - those marching bands you AMericans send over for the parade are great!! Especially after a pint of two. ahem.

Edit: Well, paint me green and call me wrong...

When the conflict became apparent, officials from the Irish bishops' conference wrote the Vatican's Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments. The congregation approved the move earlier this year, but it only was made public in mid-July.

A source at the Irish bishops' conference who did not wish to be named told Catholic News Service that the bishops were "keen to keep a link with the civic celebrations by moving the feast to the nearest Saturday, in this case March 15."

"We hope that this will facilitate the religious celebration of the holy day while not interfering too much with people who wish to celebrate the importance of St. Patrick's Day as a symbol of all things Irish," he said.

It is the first time in almost 100 years that the feast of St Patrick will not be celebrated March 17. In 1913, the same conflict occurred, and in that case the church marked the feast April 1.

According to historians, March 17 is the traditional date given for the death of St. Patrick, and his feast has been celebrated on this day since the seventh century....

The next time St. Patrick's Day will fall during Holy Week will be 2160.

heheheh - I had my mother and grandmother over on Friday... The usual who they met at the hairdresser conversation was taken over with ^ for an hour and a half. Loud sighs don't work under those circumstances, I discovered.

I mixed a club show, got home right at 3AM. The second act arrived at ~11:30 from another gig, set up while the solo opener was still playing, and started less than 2 minutes after the first guy went off. No line check, soundcheck, trip to the can, nothing. I'm whipped, but the club tipped me out extra since they had a huge night. One highlight for me was when I slipped the bartender a Dropkick Murphys CD and he put it on right after a very mellow tradition Irish sounding one.

Oh yeah: the band did "Willie The Pimp" into "Whiskey River" at one point, and the whole place went ballistic. Good times!
