Fair - but both have a knack for playing very busy parts while still staying out of the way of the rest of the song.Although I can imagine what you mean, it isn't that way for me at all.
Jamerson innovated, whereas Julia interprets. That's not to diminish her accomplishment; rather it's to make a distinction between the two players' demonstrated talents.
Jamerson was a composing bassist who improvised exactly in service of the song, to render what sounded not like improvisation, but like a preconceived part.
Julia interprets preconceived parts, indeed parts already rendered by other players. That she does this with such skill, accuracy, and depth of groove is worthy of all the praise she is getting here. But it's not the same approach or aesthetic skill set as Jamerson's.
There is a little proverbDon't you know George? Pigs sweat. Women perspire. Looks like she's having too much fun to perspire...![]()
that stuff normally takes a seasoned pro.

Julia
She's SOOOO good.
And she makes whatever budget-priced bass she's playing sound like a bajillion bucks.
$800-1000 is a budget instrument?
Or Louis Johnson?I sort of think of her as James Jamerson reincarnated.
Or Louis Johnson?
If you mean note-for-note, then no. I'm not familiar with the original version of this song, but I've seen some of Julia's other videos where she's staying true to the vibe of the original but adding in some very nice fills and variations of her own.I thought that she was only rendering parts that were played by other players; in other words, she exclusively is mimicking other players' recorded works.
