ive got 300 dollars what bass should i get?

I bought a little Fender sunburst Squier P bass at a pawn shop for a friend whose daughter is interested in playing bass for about 120 bucks. I was thinking "well, it's not a REAL P bass, but should be okay for her to start". OMG....I put new strings on this thing, plugged it in, and it sounds AMAZING! The key is that, even though it's marked as a P bass, it has a P-J PU Combo. I don't think it was a retrofit, either! And it has a very nice neck that is more akin to a Jazz neck, as it's narrower around the nut. Rosewood fretboard. I told the 'mom' that I'd give her her money back if the daughter didn't like it! I ordered a very nice SKB bass bag for it online for forty bucks. SO....for 160 bucks, she has a very nice bass and gig bag that any seasoned player would be proud to use. Just goes to show you, you don't have to spend a lot of cash or worry about 'name status' to get a good axe!

My advice: Buy an instrument from a TBer in your price range. They usually are players themselves and know how to set up an instrument. Ask intelligent questions about the condition. Most TBer have an excellent feedback.
