J-bass in a P-bass Case

I just sold my P-bass without the case - a brand new, Fender custom molded HSC. Tomorrow, I may go buy a very nice Jazz that I found for sale locally. Can anyone confirm if my P-bass case will accommodate a Jazz?

umm i have a MIA fender rectangle case i think used in the 80's and 90's its got a out line in it of a bass and fits both p and j basses excellent.
i think all 34 inch fender cases have been interchangeable.

Thanks...but the P-bass case that I have is the molded variety, and of course the Precision fit in it perfectly. I can't find any reference on the Fender website that even lists the molded cases being available for basses anymore (all rectangle).

I can use the same TKL case for my P and J, but it wasn't custom molded. Chances are it will work.

If the P Bass fits in there perfectly then no, the Jazz won't fit it. The Jazz has an off-set waist. The P doesn't.

because whether or not it fits in his case should not be a factor in his decision to buy this new bass

Exactly. If it doesn't fit, I'll just get one that does. For as much as it leaves the house, a good gig bag will do - just something to keep the dog's nose prints off.
