Got a screaming deal on a black one a while back, and swapped all the metal for gold-plated parts, now it has sort of a Black Beauty vibe to it-- then ended up with a blue one-- will have to give one up if I want a red one (and oh, I do want), and I'm not prepared to do that yet--

I saw a GREAT band last night (ALL WE ARE) in Leeds, England. Give them a listen. The bass player has a Jack Cassidy. What a fabulous tone......really impressed.

It seems there are more short scale basses designed with character in mind than long scale. I saw one the other day with a taxi-cab checkerboard on the sides. It seems that when long scale is the target, the design has to be 'serious'. And I hate coffee table basses.*

'Twas in the classifieds if memory serves. I was mightily tempted. And wrt the Jack Cassidy, gold, red, purple or otherwise - it's a joy to play and quite the bargain.

Just got mine in from Sweetwater late yesterday afternoon. It's a great looking bass. I've gassed for a gold one for years, but the translucent wine red color put me over the top. I tried it with the round wound strings that came with it and it came with a good setup - very playable. I've never liked rounds so I'm putting on flats right now.

Nut width is 1.65 inches by the way.

I also understand they made some changes to the pickup on this model. It sounds great but I don't have another model to make a comparison.

Sweetwater price was $799 including shipping.

Sweetwater got mine to me next day for free shipping. It's one great bass! My son saw it and said 'Dad, that's one cool looking Beatles guitar', which is ironic as I have had two Rics for many years now.
