Jack location poll--dare to disagree!

All right, this seems like it hasn't been beaten to death in a while, let's get a thread going on jack location. Show you know jack!

For my part, I like top jacks best, but not enough to avoid getting a bass with a side jack. For side jacks, I don't like recessed tele style, as I prefer right angle plugs for side jacks. Ibanez style recessed top jacks are RIGHT OUT!

I have an opinion on this, and it is that side jacks are the best. Right angle cable, through the strap, plugged into a side jack is the cleanest cable management. Like you, it's not a deal breaker for me. Most of my basses are top jack and it's fine.

I agree that the tele style is terrible, because you can't use a right angle cable. Now if you want to pass the cable through the strap, it sticks out too much and bends at a harsh angle.

Strat style jacks are unacceptable, especially when mounted on the back. Where's the back mounted option?

I voted top, but side is also acceptable. I Really dislike the strat style jacks like on the Ibanez basses.

I have 6 bases, 3 with top jacks and 3 with side jacks. In theory I prefer side jacks, but it's not something that influences my buying choice or playing enjoyment.

I have and can deal with both. But top is my fav because it resists pulling out without even having to wrap it around the strap AND it NEVER gets in the way of my bass stand.

Active bass, I feel like the jack should be on the side. Passive, the top makes more sense. Not sure why that is. It just works that way in my mind.

Active needs more knobs usually, so moving the jack helps that. I can see that.

Side jack, 90° plug, cable secured by the strap. I can do the same with a top jack but I absolutely despise Strat style inputs. It's one of the things that keeps me from owning an Ibanez Talman.

Speaking of Ibanez, the inset jacks on their SR series messes with my cable game, as I can't use right angle plugs.

Jack location won't keep me from buying, but my preference is a top-mounted jack. In both locations, I like 90-degree plugs with the cable looped through the strap. Side jacks and straight plugs often interfere with my stands and look like a good way to damage either the plug or the jack if it were to get bumped.

I've commissioned a custom bass with the output jack on the headstock. Huge upgrade cost, but possibly worth it. I'll report back asap.
